1100 fans at the Westland Arena.

For the 2nd straight night the Millionaires struck first as with just 76 seconds to go in the opening period, Hudson Norris sent a nifty feed in front to Kole Keen in the slot & he made no mistake for his 9th of the year to give Melville a 1-0 lead after 1 period.

In the 2nd, the Terriers evened it up about half way through the period as Tate Schofer knocked home a rebound past Ethan Rau for his 4th of the season to make it 1-1 before Tyson Perkins rifled home his 3rd of the campaign to give Yorkton their first lead at 2-1.

The Millionaires though before the 2nd period buzzer went off answered short-handed as Hudson Norris stole a puck at his own blue-line & tucked it five-hole on Ethan Farrow for his 6th to make it even through 40 minutes.

The Terriers regained their one goal lead just 1:36 into the third and it would be Tyson Perkins yet again as his long point shot beat Rau again clean for his 2nd of the night making it 3-2.

But for the 2nd straight period it was the Mils responded with a short-handed marker as this time Kole Keen notched his 2nd goal of the day to make it 3-3.

After an entertaining overtime solved nothing, it went to a shootout where Colby Ball got the eventual game winner.

Ethan Rau earned his 8th win of the season making 26 saves on 29 shots in the win, while Terriers G turned aside 22 of 25 shots in shootout loss.

The Millionaires return to action in Game 1 of their first round playoff series on the road most likely on Friday night, their opponent is still to be determined.

Benny hat trick leads Millionaires to home ice win over Terriers
TERRIERS 3, MILLIONAIRES 6

The Melville Millionaires prevailed in the 5th Highway 10 battle of the season beating the Yorkton Terriers 6-3 on Friday night.

The Millionaires got off to a quick start with three goals in the 1st as Jadon Iyogun, Caden Drury and Bradley Banach twinkled the twine to give the Mils a 3-0 lead after 1 period.

Aiden Knutson and Anthony Domina gave the Terriers some life in 2nd with 2 quick goals to make it a one goal game.

The Mils regained their two goal lead when Caden Drury notched his second of the night with 9 seconds left before Terrier F Tate Schofer cut their deficit within one with just 0.9 seconds left in the period.

But that's as close as the Terriers would get as Luc Bydal and the hat-trick goal from Drury pushed the Moneymen to the two points.

William Dyke made 24 stops on 27 shots to earn the victory in Mils goal while Terrier starter Adam Kelly started making 3 saves on 4 shots before leaving with an injury while Ethan Farrow made 25 saves in the losing cause.

The two teams will meet once again in Yorkton on Saturday night afternoon.

Elsewhere,

WEYBURN 4, ESTEVAN 0

FLIN FLON 2, HUMBOLDT 6

LA RONGE 0, NIPAWIN 6

KINDERSLEY 3, margin: 0px;">It was a magical time for those who saw it unfold, and for the competitors it was an unforgettable experience.

It was 25 years ago today (March 6th) that the Yorkton rink skipped by Gerald Shymko alongside Gerry Adam, Steve Sobkow, Arnie Geisler & Neil Curson's started their memorable run a the 1999 Brier in Edmontin.

The Shymko team qualified at each step and were successful in reaching the final of the provincial championship held in Meadow Lake where they were joined by Yorkton clubmate Bryan Derbowka and his rink.

Gerry Adam says it was quite the game to be a part of.

"It was a tough game to be part of honestly, I curled with Brian for many years and we also had the goal to make it to the Brier, so hard to see some one lose but still glad we came out on top."

The Shymko team then received their green and white Saskatchewan sweaters and the coveted purple hearts and they were off to Brier, at the Skyreach Center in Edmonton.

"It was one of those things we didn't have much expectations going in as it was our first kind of experience, but as the week went on we got more comfortable and realized we could compete at this level." Adam added.

The team completed the round robin in third place and disposed of Russ Howard in the 3-4 game.

Then came the semi-final and a matchup with Quebec's Guy Hemmings, a game that Adam admits was the greatest one he was a part of.

"It was a back and forth game, and it could've went either way, we tied it up in 10th and then Gerald make a great draw to the side of the button but guess not good enough as Guy made a once in a lifetime draw to beat us."

So it was an unfortunate result, and not the storybook ending for the local crew that is still stung by that loss to this day, but Adam says it was a great run to be a part of with a great group of friends, that he won't forget.

"At this time every year you always think about it a bit a bit more, and it stings being that close, cause you don't get many chances usually to compete for a Brier title."

Chat with Adam below:

<div style="color: #cccccc;
