2023 Fall Training Camps kick off this weekend for local MJHL/SJHL clubs

SWAN VALLEY STAMPEDERS FALL CAMP 2023 



The Swan Valley Stampeders are gearing up for another hockey season with main camp set to start Friday Sept. 1 at the Centennial Arena.

Main camp gets underway with check-in at 10:00am Friday morning, followed by on ice practices and games that will close out the day.

Yorkton Terriers (SJHL) name Olauson as new Head Coach & GM




The SJHL's Yorkton Terriers have announced that Emery Olauson will be their new Head Coach & General Manager. 

“Emery is a leader with a track record of success everywhere he has been. He is focused on developing players on and off the ice, and he understands our commitment to this community and we are confident he will build on the Yorkton Terriers long history of success and We look forward to working with Emery through the upcoming season. Emery will be in Yorkton in time to oversee our fall camp,” said Terrier President Corvyn Neufeld.

The 42 year old is an experienced hockey professional who comes to Yorkton from Invermere, BC where he was Head Coach/General Manager of the Columbia Valley Rockies in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League in 2022/23. 

“Having played in the SJHL, I have a great appreciation for the league and joining a storied franchise like Yorkton is a responsibility I take very seriously. I am grateful to Corvyn and the Yorkton Terriers Board for their trust in me, and I look forward to working with the staff and players to build a championship calibre team in Yorkton,” said Olauson.

Previous to that he has coached in the Southern Professional Hockey League, KIJHL and Maritime Junior Hockey League.

In other news, The club also announced that Assistant Coaches Scott Musqua and Zach Rakochy will be back behind the bench for the 2023-24 campaign.

Main camp begins September 1st and runs through the 3rd at the Westland Insurance Arena.

Richardson Pioneer Sask East Oilers getting set for inaugural AA hockey seasons



With the hockey season fast approaching there will be three newly-named teams hitting the ice this winter in the Parkland region, named the "Richardson Pioneer Sask East AA Oilers".

The minor hockey associations from Yorkton Minor Hockey, Melville Minor Hockey and Moosomin Minor Hockey have entered a Memorandum of Understanding with their U18AA, 15AA, U15AA programs.

The philosophy behind this collaboration is to create a high quality, competitive, AA Hockey Program within the region.

This MOU is a cooperation amongst the three associations to work together to promote AA Hockey in the Sask-East region.

The SaskEast Oilers U15AA hockey team will be holding tryouts from Sept 8th to Sept 10th.

The sessions will be held in Yorkton on Fri. Sept 8th and in Melville on Sat. Sept 9th & Sun. Sept 10th.

Meanwhile the SaskEast Oilers 15AA & U18AA teams will be holding their tryouts from Sept 1st to Sept 3rd in Ochapowace.

Yorkton Terriers held 2023 Annual General Meeting on Monday



The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Yorkton Terriers held their 2023 annual general meeting last night (Mon)  at the Gallagher Center

From the AGM, the Terriers’ announced a deficit of $35,547 from the 2022/23 season.

“Not what we want to see at the end of a hockey season, but really it boils down to not making playoffs and that's where you make your money but we will be working hard to get that on track", said Terrier President Corvyn Neufeld.

Neufeld also said there was also 5 spots open on the board of directors with Curtis Malysh, Chad Holinaty & Darren Campbell re-elected to return to the board while newcomers Grant Ottenbreit and Kevin Dziaduck whom are both are Terrier alumni were elected to board.

“It's nice to have a couple Terrier alumni coming on board to give back and pass along their knowledge, and it's nice to welcome Darren back on after he took a couple years off", Neufeld added.

Neufeld also thanked outgoing board members Curtis Maleschuk, Kathy Pearson and Peter Franck for all their hardwork.

Another hot topic of discussion from the meeting was status of the search for a new Head Coach & General Manager and Neufeld said the process is well underway.

"We are in a short-list stage, and we had a great respone of good applicants and we hope to be able to make an offer here very soon"

The Terriers will hold their training camp on the September Long Weekend at the Westland Insurance Arena in Yorkton.

Millionaires announce signing of 2006 -born F Keen




The SJHL's Melville Millionaires have announced the signing of 2006-born forward Kole Keen for the 2023/24 season. 

He led the Estevan Bears of the Sask. U18 AAA Hockey league in scoring netting 25 goals, 29 assists for 54 points in 43 games during the 2022/23 campaign. 

"Players like Kole don't come around all the time and he will be a big part in helping change the Millionaires fortunes around. It's exciting times with players like Kole and all the other quality individuals we have coming back and have signed with the Mills. We can't wait to start working with Kole and the rest of the team in September." said Mils Head coach & GM Doug Johnson

Keen, a White City, SK product was the Millionaires' 2nd round pick of the 2022 SJHL Draft.

Millionaires acquire 20 year old G Dyke from Burlington (OJHL)

 




The SJHL's Melville Millionaires have acquired 20 year old goaltender William Dyke from the Burlington Cougars (OJHL) for a player development fee. 

The Lethbridge, AB product spent most of his 2022/23 season in the Ontario Junior A Hockey League compiling a record of 13-2-0 with a 2.42 GAA & 0.914 SV% split between the Cougars and Trenton Golden Hawks. 

He also suited up in 7 games with the AJHL's Drumheller Dragons sporting a 2-1-2 record. 

This is Dyke's 2nd stint in the SJHL after spending time with the Humboldt Broncos (SJHL) during the 2021/22 campaign.

Melville Millionaires (SJHL) announce Wudrick as new Assistant Coach

                         


 The Melville Millionaires have hired Geordie Wudrick (pictured) as their new assistant coach.

The B.C. native played minor hockey around the Vancouver area, before playing one year of U18 'AAA' with the Notre Dame Hounds.

He spent five seasons in the WHL - four-and-a-half with the Swift Current Broncos, before finishing his fifth season with the Kelowna Rockets, and playing with Team Canada at the 2007 U18 Ivan Hlinka tournament.

Wudrick, who was drafted by the L.A. Kings in 2008, also played university hockey at New Brunswick and UBC, followed by several years of pro hockey in the ECHL, SPHL, Europe and Australia

Hehr steps down as Head Coach & GM of Yorkton Terriers (SJHL)

   


The SJHL's Yorkton Terriers have announced that Mat Hehr has stepped down from his position of Head Coach & General Manager to pursue other hockey opportunities. 

The 34 year old, Sherwood Park, AB native joined the club in 2016 as Assistant Coach and then took over as Head Coach & GM during the 2017/8 campaign. 

Hehr compiled a record of 127-130-16 as bench boss of the Terriers. 

The hockey club has announced that the search for a new Head Coach and General Manager has begun immediately.

Falcons; Posse capture League Fastball titles

FALCONS CAPTURE 2023 SOUTH EAST MENS FASTBALL LEAGUE 




The Whitewood Falcons are your 2023 South East Men's Fastball League Champions. 

The Falcons overcame deficits of 5-1 and 5-4 after 5 innings to beat the Grenfell Gems 9-6 on Wednesday night in the third & deciding game of their Best of 3 series in Grenfell. 

Falcons pitcher Tony Sparvier, coming off helping the Gems win a Provincial title last weekend, pitched 7 strong innings to help his club team the Falcons win it all.

POSSE BECOME RICHARDSON PIONEER MEN'S FASTBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

After falling in the previous two league finals, the Neudorf Posse can finally call themselves league champs. 

The Posse in front of a big home crowd beat the visiting Wynyard Blues 6-4 on Friday night to win the Richardson Pioneer Men's Fastball League title. 


The RPMFL, along with Wynyard & Neudorf, consists of teams like the Rosebud Royals, Earl Grey Rockets and the Rhein Rockets.
