Cards/Mils Postponed for Tonight

The WMBL game between the Melville Millionaires and Yorkton Cardinals has been postponed for tonight because of the rain. The game is rescheduled for this Sunday June 30th at 7:30 Pirie Field 

3 More Wolverines Commit to College Hockey

         



The Wayway Wolverines are now up to 6 graduating players that will be advancing their hockey careers at the collegiate level.

Wolverines goalie Cory Simons will join the defending Division III National Champions, University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. Over 2 seasons in Wayway, Simons had 29 wins and 33 losses also 4 shutouts.

Meanwhile, defenceman Zane Morin and Kyle Threndyle will be teammates this season , this time with the Portage College Voyaguers (ACAC).Threndyle who came over from Calgary Mustangs had 11 goals and 21 assists in 50 games with Wayway. Morin who came over from Kindersley Klippers along with David Haaf, had 4 goals 16 assists and 145 penalty minutes for the Wolverines.

The 3 join Brett Pinkerton (Adrian College), David Haaf (Adrian College), and Russell Turner (University of Toronto) as graduating Wolverine players playin collegiate hockey for the upcoming season.

Burgess' pinch hit single leads Cards to 8-7 win over Melville.

The Yorkton Cardinals held a 7-0 lead after 5 innings , but the Melville Millionaires stormed back with 7 unanswered runs which included a 4 run top of 9th, but pinch hitter Justin Burgess hit a RBI single in the bottom of the 9th to lead the Cards to a 8-7 victory over the Mils.

Kevin McLeod led the Cards at the plate going 4 for 5, while Nick Gallipeau , Michael Meany, and George Santiago had 2 hits as well for Yorkton.

Mils' shortstop AJ Florence led the way for the Mils going 3 for 3 while leadoff man Kevin Biro went 2 for 4.

Matt Bowles went 7 strong innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 5 but got the no decision. Matt Chavarria pitched 1 inning giving up 2 runs and improved his record to 1-1. Jaime Paxton got his first loss of the year as a Mil going 1 inning allowing the winning run on the Burgess walkoff single.

The two teams next games will be the Highway 10 rematch tomorrow night (Tues) when they do battle 7:05 Pirie Field.

Melville Minor Football holding Fundraising BBQ tomorrow

Melville Minor Football is hosting a fundraising BBQ tomorrow from the Prairie Co-op Food Store in Melville from 10AM- 4PM. Burgers and hot dogs will be available, the funds raised will go towards a new scoreclock for the Cobra Pit football Field.

Cardinals win wild one scoring 5 in the 9th to beat Edmonton 12-9

The Yorkton Cardinals are now 1-1 on their current 4 game roadtrip as they scored 5 runs in the Top of 9th inning to defeat the hometown Edmonton Prospects 12-9 on Thursday night.

Cards' first baseman Nick Gallipeau led the way at the plate going 3 for 5 with a double and a RBI, while Alnardo Rodriguez, George Santiago, Matt Chavarria and Sergio Perez all chipped in with 2 hits as well.

New Jersey native Anthony Martinez got the start on the mound for the Cards going 5 innings giving 3 runs on 9 hits while striking out 5 but got the no decision. Aaron Dick went 1 inning giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and got the win. Connor Girard got the loss on the mound for the Prospects.

Yorkton improved their record to 6-10 on the season just 0.5 game behind the Weyburn Beavers for 3rd in the East Division while Prospects league worst record drops to 1 and 14.

Those two teams will do it all again tonight in Edmonton 7:05. Meanwhile the Melville Millionaires will host the Saskatoon Yellow Jackets tonight at Pirie Field 7:05

Mils acquire Constant from the OCN Blizzard




The Melville Millionaires have acquired 1994 born forward Brady Constant from the MJHL's OCN Blizzard for cash considerations.

Constant, who is from The Pas, Manitoba scored 8 goals and 20 points and registered 43 minutes in penalties in 50 games for the Blizzard this past seasn.

Cards lose heartbreaker in Saskatoon to start roadtrip

The Yorkton Cardinals (5-10) had a lead of 4-2 until the Saskatoon Yellow Jackets scored single runs in the bottom of 8th, 9th and 10th innings to lead the home side to a 5-4 victory on Wednesday night.

Hans Ask had they walk-off single for the Yellow Jackets.
The Cards were led at the plate by Alnardo Rodriguez and Nick Gallipeau who had 2 hits each while Shaniel Rivera got the start going 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits walking 5 and striking out 5. Matt Bowles was credited with the loss on the mound going 1 1/3 innings giving up 4 hits and 2 runs (including Saskatoon's winning run).

Yorkton will continue their road trip with a couple games in Edmonton against the Prospects starting tonight at 7:05. The Mils rather will enjoy their 2nd straight day off before hosting the Saskatoon Yellow Jackets tomorrow night (Fri) 7:05 Pirie Field.

Stamps make a trade for 2 from Quebec; deal Magwood to Dauphin




The Swan Valley Stampeders have acquired the playing rights of 20 year old forward Maxime Provencher and 19 year old goaltender Alex Vacarro from the Saint Leonard Artic of the LHJAAAQ for future considerations.

Provencher, from Montreal Quebec had 18 goals and 43 points in 50 games with the Arctic this past season and he also has got QMJHL experience with the Gatineau Olympiques and Victoriaville Tigres.

Vacarro, also a Quebec native appeared 19 games last season with the Arctic having a GAA of 5.68 , & a 0.854 save %

The Swan Valley Stampeders also traded 20 year old defenseman Colton Magwood to the Dauphin Kings for '97 dman prospect Jesse Lawrence and future considerations.

Magwood, the Killarney MB native played in 84 games in his 2 years with the Stampeders compiling 3 goals and 19 assists for 22 points and 275 penalty minutes.

While Lawrence, the Stamps get a 5'8" 16 year old defenceman who played in the Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League with the Brandon AAA Wheat Kings scoring 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points in 34 games.

Yorkton's Matechuk survives First Set of Cuts with Riders





Yorkton's Jordan Matechuk who participated in the Riders pre season game against Edmonton, will most likely be the line-up come Thursday when the Saskatchewan Roughriders host the Calgary Stampeders in their final pre season tune up.

Shymko; Turner Commit To CIS Schools

 

Former Yorkton Terrier and Calder Product Warren Shymko has chose to continue his hockey career at the collegiate level with the University of Ottawa Gee Gee's (CIS).

The 21 year old completed his final season of junior hockey with the Kindersley Klippers and recorded a 11-16 record with a 4.06GAA and a 0.891 save % and a shutout. Shymko also played better part of 3 seasons with the Yorkton Terriers ending with a 30-20-5 record with a 2.96 GAA and 4 shutouts.

Shymko will join former Melville Millionaire defenceman and Melville Product Austin Krahenbil & Former Notre Dame Hound Goalie Russel Abbot on the squad.

Graduating Waywayseecappo Wolverines forward and Jasper, Alberta native Russell Turner will also extend his hockey career at the CIS Level as he will join the University of Toronto Varsity Blues for the 2013/14 season.

The 21 year old Turner had 45 goals 37 assists for 82 points in 113 career games with the Wolverines.

Turner will join former Wayway teammate Paul Van De Velde on the Varsity Blues.

Big Night for Mils' Rosecrans as Mils double up Cardinals 14-7

The Melville Millionaires (5-4) improved their record to 5-4 on the season as they came up 19 hits to double up their Highway 10 rivals the Yorkton Cardinals (3-7)  on Thursday night 14-7.

Mils' Shortstop Cody Rosecrans led the way at the plate going for 4 for 4 which included his 1st home run, double, 2 singles and 3 RBIs while John Clark had 3 hits of his own and Vance Woodruff also homered for the Mils.

Allen Rimer got the start on the mound for the Mils and grinded out a complete game giving up 7 runs on 10 hits walked 3 and struck out 6 for his 2nd win on the campaign.

The Cardinals were led offensively by Sergio Perez, Liam Goodall and Nick Gallipeau had 2 hits while Robert Page started on the mound and only went 2 innings giving up 8 runs on 8 hits walked 2 and struck out 1 and was tagged with the loss.

The Mils will host the Lethbridge Bulls tonight (Fri) 7:05 at Pirie while the Yorkton Cardinals will welcome the Moose Jaw Miller Express to Jubilee Park tonight, First pitch 7:05.

Yorkton Resident Finishes 4th at Can. West Cross Fit Regionals

Yorkton Resident Taryn Romanowich recently returned from competing at the 2013 Canada West Cross Fit Regional Championships at the Oval in Richmond, BC.

Despite not making the top 2 which would've booked her a ticket for a trip to California, Romanowich finished very good 4th place out of around 60 athletes in the women's category.

Cardinals' comeback falls short in loss the Beavers

Despite getting into a 6-0 hole half way through the ball game, the Yorkton Cardinals (3-6) tried to claw back by scoring 4 runs in the 7th inning which included a 2-run double by Kevin McLeod but just came up short as they fell 7-5 to the hometown Weyburn Beavers.

The Cardinals' were led at the plate by Georgoe Santiago and Liam Goodall who had 2 hits each while Shaniel Rivera took the loss on the mound going 5 innings, giving up 5 earned runs on 9 hits, striking out 8.

The Cardinals will be in action again tomorrow night (Thurs) when they visit the Melville Millionaires 7:05 Pirie Field while the Mils will visit the Regina Red Sox tonight (Wed) 7:05 Currie Field.

Meet New Swan Valley Stampeders Head Coach/GM Erik Peterson



The Swan Valley Stampeders announced earlier this off season that Erik Peterson would be their new Head Coach/ General Manager, replacing Dwayne Kirkup who is now the bench boss with the Neepawa Natives.

Peterson comes to the Swan Valley from Denmark where he has coached for over 10 season at the amateur and professional levels. He is originally from Dauphin and captured 2 MJHL Turnbull Cup titles as a player with the Dauphin Kings, and Winnipeg Blues.

Big Night for J Clark leads Mils over Miller Express

The Melville Millionaires scored 8 unanswered runs after giving up 4 runs in the top of 1st inning to defeat the Moose Jaw Miller Express 8-4 on Monday to improve their record to 4-3 on the season.

John Clark led the way for the Mils going 2 for 3 which included a double and a 2 run shot for his 1st home run of the season. Tyler Enns and Cody Rosecrans also chipped with 2 hits for the hometown team.

Mitchell Bro regrouped after a tough 1st inning by going 5 innings giving up 11 hits on 4 ER, he walked 1 and struck out 3. While Jeremy Newton came and was almost flawless giving up 3 hits over 4 innings of work while striking out 4.

The Mils will get the day off on Tuesday before visiting the Regina Red Sox on Wednesday night 7:05, while the Yorkton Cardinals will visit the Weyburn Beavers tomorrow night (Tues) 7:05
Also in the WMBL, the Swift Current Indians defeated the visiting Regina Red Sox 8-1.

Terriers are in need of Trainer/Athletic Therapist




The Yorkton Terriers are pleased to announce that Tyler Paturel, the teams Athletic Therapist/Equipment Manager for the 2012-13 SJHL season has accepted a position as Athletic Therapist with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey Leagues Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
 
Tyler was an integral part of the Terriers 2012-13 SJHL Championship season. He joined the organization in the fall of 2012 having recently graduated from Concordia University in Montreal with his bachelor of science with a specialization in athletic therapy.
 
The Yorkton Terriers are very pleased to have had Tyler as a member of our organization and wish to congratulate him and wish him the best of luck as he advances to a new stage of his career.

Cards' lose to Moose Jaw at Jubilee Park

The Yorkton Cardinals dropped a 4-1 decision to the visiting Weyburn Beavers on Thursday night at Jubilee Park.

The Cardinals opened the scoring in the first inning on a sacrafice fly by Michael Meany, but the Beavers would then come back with 2 runs in the top of 2nd and never looked back.

Cardinals' DH Nick Gallipeau led the way at the plate for Yorkton with 2 hits while Cards' starting pitcher RJ Page went five innings, walked three, struck out five, and allowed four runs and was tagged with the loss.

The loss drops their record to 2-3 on the season and they will be in action again tonight (Fri) when they visit the Moose Jaw Miller Express while the 3-2 Melville Millionaires will make the trek to Weyburn to take on the Beavers also 7:05 First Pitch.

Local Football Player off to Finland for Worlds at end of month


A Yorkton Resident will be heading to Vantaa, Finland at the end of this month for 2013 Women's World Championship of Football.

Becky Wallis, who plays for her club team for the most of the season, the Regina Riot, will play at defensive end on Team Canada.




The eight-nation tournament takes place from June 28th to July 6th in Finland.

Mils' explode for 21 in win over Moose Jaw

The Melville Millionaires exploded for 21 runs and 20 hits to improve their record to 3-2 on the short WMBL season defeating the Moose Jaw Miller Express 21-9 on Wednesday night.

John Clark, Kevin Biro, Garrett Kilgore, and Tyler Enns all led the way at the plate for the Mils with 3 hits each, Clark add 4 RBIs while Biro had 3 RBIs and also chipped in with a home run.

2nd year Mils pitcher Allen Rimer got the start on the mound for the Mils and went 6 innings giving up 9 runs on 15 hits , walking and striking out 2 for his 1st victory of the season.

The Mils will have the day off today before travelling to take on the Weyburn Beavers tomorrow night (Fri) 7:05. While the Yorkton Cardinals will host the Weyburn Beavers tonight 7:05 Jubilee Park.

Former Stamps Smart/Neduzak advancing hockey careers

The Swan Valley Stampeders would like to announce two twenty year old forwards Kyle Smart and Jordan Neduzak on advance their careers at the university levels.

Kyle Smart has committed to MacEwan University in the ACAC. Kyle was an assistant captain with Stampeders and concluded his MJHL career last year with 20 goals 27 assists for 47 points in 58 games. Kyle was instrumental in the community with volunteer work and was a leader for the team on and off the ice.

Jordan Neduzak will be suiting up for the Wisconsin-Superior Yellow Jackets in the fall. Jordan was acquired at the trade deadline from the Winkler Flyers and had tremendous effect on the organization during his tenure here. Last season Jordan led the Stampeders in points registering 22 goals 37 assists for 59 points in 59 games.

Grillo's extra inning heroics leads Cards Past Mils in 11 innings

It took extra innings but the Yorkton Cardinals defeated their highway 10 rivals the Melville Millionaires for the 2nd straight time this time a 5-4 11th inning victory on Tuesday night.

Ben Grillo hit a bases loaded walkoff single in the bottom of 11th inning to help the Cardinals get their 2nd victory of the season.

Grillo, Kevin McLeod, Justin Burgess and Dylan Gross all led the way at the plate for Yorkton with 2 hits each, while Shaniel Rivera got the start on the mound going 6 innings while striking out 5 but was tagged with the no decision. Canora's Kody Rock went strong innings in relief and got his first victory of the season.

While on the Mils side veteran third baseman Garret Kilgore led the way going 3-5 with 2 RBIs which included the triple that tied up the ball for the Mils late. Curtis Johnson would start on the bump for the Mils going 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits while Callaway Kirkpatrick went 4 and a third in relief out of the Melville bullpen and was tagged with the loss on the mound.

The Cards will get a day off Wednesday before hosting the Weyburn Beavers on Thursday night 7:05 Jubilee Park, while the Mils will go right back at it on Wednesday when they visit the Moose Jaw Miller Express 7:05 at Ross Wells Park.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League held its Annual General meeting on May 31st and June 1st in Nipawin.

 The 12-13 SJHL season had an increase of 4% of fans during the regular season. During the 12-13 playoffs the attendance across the league showed a huge increase of 44%.

 The 13-14 season will start on September 19th in Melville with the Estevan Bruins visiting for an Access 7 live broadcast game. A full slate of games is scheduled for September 20th and 21st.

The season will end on March 4th with the Flin Flon Bombers visiting the Melfort Mustangs.

The SJHL season will see a schedule of 56 games.

The Playoffs will begin either Thursday March 6th or Friday March 7th 2014.

 Two motions unanimously passed by the CJHL for the 13-14 season were brought to the attention of the Governors and Coaches.

 
Payment of Players:

Except as otherwise permitted by NCAA legislation, no team or person on behalf of such team, may provide, offer to

provide, or promise to provide in the future (whether directly or indirectly in any manner whatsoever and whether

by way of payment, salary, bonus, profit share, reimbursement of expense, allowance, award, bursary, scholarship,

reduction in player fees or participation fees or registration fees, sham employment, or otherwise), any of its players

more than actual and necessary expenses (as defined for purposes of NCAA legislation) incurred as a direct result of

participation on the team.

• Any team in violation of this provision shall be subject to the following sanctions and discipline:

minimum $10,000 fine payable to the CJHL;

the team will be ineligible to compete in regional or national championships for the season in which the violation

occurs and the following three (3) seasons;

all players registered as members of the team on the Hockey Canada Registry at the time of the violation shall be

 released without compensation (i.e., become "free agents") at the end of the season in which the violation occurs; and

no players registered by the team on the Hockey Canada Registry after the violation may participate in any

inter-league, regional or national teams (e.g., WJAC, CJHL Prospects, Central Canada Cup Challenge) in the season

in which the violation occurs and the following three (3) seasons following the season in which the violation occurs.

 
Discipline for exceeding trade cash cap

No team, or person on behalf of such team, may pay, offer to pay or promise to pay or request payment for,

receive or accept, in the future, directly or indirectly in any manner whatsoever, an amount in respect

of an inter-league player transfer that exceeds the maximum limit on the cash component of any inter-league

player transfer (as adjusted from time to time).

The Warman group that have been exploring the possibility of an SJHL franchise for their City did not apply for a franchise.  The feasibility study that was undertaken determined that there was not enough support from the Businesses canvassed as well the objective for Season ticket support was also insufficient for the group to submit an application.

 
The President of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, Bill Chow has recently become the Chair of Junior Hockey at the Board of Hockey Canada.The Board of Governors of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League have agreed on a new 3 year contract with current President Bill Chow that will keep him as President until 2016.

Cards get upended by Miller Express on Monday night

The Yorkton Cardinals had their record drop to 1-2 on the short WMBL season as they fell at Jubilee Park 8-3 to the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Monday night.

Kevin McLeod and Matt Bowles led the way for the Cards at the plate each chipping in with 3 hits in a losing cause while Jeff Pool got the start for Yorkton and went 5 2/3 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits walking 1 and striking out 3 while being tagged with the loss.

The Cards will need to regroup fast as they go right back at it against their Highway 10 rivals the Melville Millionaires tomorrow night (Tues) 7:05 at Jubilee Park, the same Mils team they beat for their first victory of the season on Sunday a 4-3 win at Pirie Field

Cardinals' win their first of the season over Highway 10 Rival Mils

The Yorkton Cardinals drew first blood in the Highway 10 Rivalry in the Western Major Baseball League with a 4-3 victory over the hometown Melville Millionaires.

Justin Burgess led the way at the plate for the Cards going 2 for 3 while David Toth was very solid on the hill for the Cards going 5 strong innings giving up 1 hit 1 walk and striking out 6 to pick up the victory. Mils' pitcher Alex Webb went 7 innings giving up 4 runs on 4 hits was tagged with the loss.

Mils' centerfielder Tyler Enns led the way at the plate for Melville going 1 for 3 with a double.

The Cardinals' will be back on the field tomorrow night (Mon) when they host the Moose Jaw Miller Express at 7:05 Jubilee Park , while the Mils will have a day off Monday before heading up the Highway 10 for a rematch with the Cards 7:05 Jubilee Park.

Cards' fall in season opener; Mils beat Weyburn on Saturday night

The Yorkton Cardinals (0-1) fell in their WMBL Season Opener on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat to the defending league champion Regina Red Sox (2-1) at Jubilee.

Allan Sanchez kept the Cards hitters in check throwing 8 innings giving up 6 hits while striking out 10, meanwhile Cards pitcher Steve Barnett was pretty solid as well going 7 innings giving up 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 5.

Cardinals DH Nick Gallipeau led the way with a couple hits at the plate for the hometown team.

The Cards will return to action tonight when they travel to Melville to take on the Millionaires 7:05 at Pirie Field.

While in Melville, the Millionaires (2-0)  got their 2nd straight win defeating the host Weyburn Beavers (0-2) 10-5 at Pirie Field.

Casey Coyle, Garrett Kilgore, and Tyler Enns had 2 hits each while righty Mitchell Bro went 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4 to take the victory on the mound.

Coyle and Vance Woodruff also led the way with 2 RBIs each

Mils take season opener over defending champs

The Melville Millionaires got done early but managed to come back which included scoring 6 runs in the 7th inning for a 7-4 opening night victory over the two time defending league champion Regina Red Sox.

Mils shortstop Kevin Biro led the way at the plate going 1-3 including a big 2 RBI single in that 7th. Vance Woodruff started on the mound for the Mils going 6 strong innings, with 6 hits 4 ER 4 walks and 7 strikeouts. But Callaway Kirkpatrick would come in and pitch 3 lights out innings to get the victory.

The Mils will go right back at it Saturday when they host the Weyburn Beavers 7:05 Pirie Field.

Meanwhile the Yorkton Cardinals will open up their season tonight when they host the Regina Red Sox 7:05 Jubilee Park
