SJHL Showcase set for Monday & Tuesday in Warman

The 2013 SJHL Showcase will be held today and tomorrow in Warman Saskatchewan.

The showcase is put in place to allow scouts from various levels an opportunity to gather in one place to see the best that the league has to offer.
The top 120 players, as determined by the league’s coaches, will play a series of games on Monday and Tuesday with practise sessions being held each morning to prepare the players for the day’s activities.
The list of players have been divided into three groups: 16-17 year olds, 17-18 year olds and 19-20 year olds. There will be two teams in each group with those clubs facing each other twice – once on Monday and again on Tuesday.
Games will be held on Monday at 2:15 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. with the second round of matches scheduled for 11:45 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
Admission is free for all of the games and there will also be no charge for a special game on Sunday at 2 p.m. when the province’s top 14-year-olds (players born in 1999) will take to the ice.

Deacon leads way as the Stamps double up the Steelers

The Swan Valley Stampeders won their 2nd straight and took 2 of 3 games on their road trip defeating the Selkirk Steelers 6-3 on Sunday night.

Mitch Deacon led the way with 2 goals and 1 assist and now leads the league with 15 points. Also, Max Flanagan and Max Provencher chipped in with a 1G and 1A each while Jagger Thomas and Nic Erb added singles.

Cole Holowenko stopped 31 of 34 shots for the victory.

The Stamps next action will be on Thursday at the MJHL Showcase in Winnipeg when they take on the Portage Terriers. GX94 will broadcast the game starting with the pregame at 6:50 MB, pxp 7:00 MB with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey from the MTS Iceplex

Saturday Night Recap

The Yorkton Terriers improved their record to 2-2 on the season as they slipped by the Estevan Bruins 3-2.

Zack Zadarozniak, Chase Norrish and Jordan Ross scored the goals for the Terriers who got 28 saves from Kale Thomson in a winning cause.

The Melville Millionaires had their 3 game win streak snapped as the Kindersley Klippers scored 4 third period goals to beat the Mils 5-3.

Colin Mospanchuk had 2 goals for the Mils while TJ Reeve chipped in with the other.

While in Winnipeg, Max Flanagan scored overtime winner as the Swan Valley Stampeders beat the Winnipeg Blues 2-1.

20 year old Max Provencher had the other goal for Swan Valley who got an impressive 39 save performance from Cole Holowenko for the win.

They will continue their 3 game road trip tonight in Selkirk

Mils Win; Stamps lose on Friday Night

The Melville Millionaires used another late 3rd period comeback as they won their 3rd straight victory a 3-2 win over the Battlefords North Stars.

Allan Kilback had the game winner on in the 3rd, while Mils also got a 2 goal performance from Reed Murray. 

Isaiah Plett got his 1st win in a Mils uniform stopping 35 of 37 shots in the net.

They will continue their road trip in Kindersley on Saturday night.

The Swan Valley Stampeders dropped their 2nd straight game this time a 6-2 loss to the hometown Winkler Flyers.

Nic Erb and Bo Sigurdson got the goals for the Stamps while Nathan Armstrong stopped 31 shots in a losing cause.

They will continue their 3 game road trip on Saturday in Winnipeg against the Blues.

Peel's rights dealt to Dauphin



The Swan Valley Stampeders have traded the rights of 19 year old Virden product Landon Peel and future considerations to the Dauphin Kings for the rights to 20 year forward Eric Walker.

Peel is currently with the WHL's Kootenay Ice where in 2 games, he has recorded 2 assists and 4 minutes in penalties.

Walker, a Castlegar BC native has WHL experience with Swift Current And Vancouver, but he played last season with the BCHL's Alberni Valley Bulldogs

Terriers fall at home 4-0 to the Battlefords.

The Yorkton Terriers' record fell to 1-2 on the young SJHL season as they fell 4-0 to the Battlefords North Stars who got their first win of the season.

The game was scoreless after a very good, fast first period with Terriers outshooting the Stars 12-7.

But in the 2nd the North Stars came out flying and capitalized on a early powerplay with a goal from Blake Young to make it 1-0. They would make it 2-0 as Igor Leonenko got his 2nd of the season on a nice and go with Jake McMillen. The North Stars would increase their lead to 3-0 when Robin Carlson would get one past Kale Thomson with just over a minute in the powerplay.

The teams would once again go back and forth early in the erd, with the Terriers hitting 2 or 3 posts, but couldn't beat Casey Parker. Ryne Keller would get the last goal of the game for the North Stars to give them a 4-0 victory.

Casey Parker stopped 33 shots to earn his first shutout of the season, while Kale Thomson stopped 22 of 26 in a losing cause in the Terriers net.

The Terriers next action will be on Saturday night when they host the Estevan Bruins at 7:30 from the FAA.

The Swan Valley Stampeders fell 5-4 to the visiting Dauphin Kings to have their record drop to 1-2 on the MJHL season. 

Max Provencher had 2 goals for the Stamps while Max Flanagan and Justin Valentino also scored while Mitch Deacon chipped in 3 assists.

Cole Holowenko stopped 31 shots but was tagged with the loss. 

The Stamps return to action on Friday when they visit the Winkler Flyers to start a 3 game in 3 nights. (Saturday in Winnipeg, Sunday in Selkirk) 

Melville's Severson sent back to Kelowna

The New Jersey Devils announced today that they have reassigned Melville product Damon Severson back to the Western Hockey League's Kelowna Rockets.

In 2 preseason games with Devils, Severson didnt register a point but had a couple shots, had a even rating and average just under 20 minutes of ice time in the two games.

He will join the 2 and 0 Rockets, and should be in the line-up on Saturday when they host the Victoria Royals.

Mils win their 2nd straight, 4-3 over Battlefords



The Melville Millionaires won their 2nd game in a row as they defeated the Battlefords North Stars 4-3 on Tuesday night.

Tyson Predinchuk (pictured above) led the way for the Mils with 2 goals while Chris Stovall & Alex Devillier add ped singles.

Dillion Forbes, Igor Leonenko and Luke McCologan replied for the Stars. 

Richard Palmer got his 2nd victory of the season as he stopped 32 shots.

The Mils next action will be on Friday when take on these very same North Stars this time in Battlefords.

Saturday Night Recap

The Yorkton Terriers raised their 2012/13 Canalta Cup banners, and followed that up with a 4-2 home victory over the Weyburn Red Wings.

Tyler Giebel led the way with 2 goals while Jordan Ross and Dylan Johnson had the other Terriers goals on a winning note. 

Kale Thomson stopped 22 shots for his first win of the season. 

The Terriers return to action Wednesday when they host Battlefords. GX94 will broadcast the game starting with pregame at 7:20.

The Swan Valley Stampeders got their first win of the 2013/14 season with a big 6-1 win over the Wayway Wolverines. 

The line of Carter Johnson (Hat Trick) Mitch Deacon (1G 4A) , and Max Flanagan (1G 4A)  led the way with 13 points together while Braydon McDonald got the other for Stamps. Drake Bodies had lone goal for Wolverines.

Cole Holowenko got his 1st MJHL win in net stopping 20 shots. 

Stamps next game will be Wednesday when they host the Dauphin Kings. 


Stamps fall in a wild season opener to Virden

The Swan Valley Stampeders had their chances to tie it up but they came up short in a 6-5 loss to the Virden Oil Capitals. 

The line of Carter Johnson (1G 1A), Max Flanagan(1g 3A) , and Mitch Deacon (1G 2A) led the way for the Stamps combining for 9 points while Nick Erb got the other 2 goals for the Stamps.

Devon Schram had 2 goals to lead way for the Oil Caps while Cory Harverstick, Arty Kalishnikov, Jordan Greig, and Mack Hardy (GWG) had the markers for the Oil Caps.

Former Portage Terrier Adam Iwan stopped 20 of 25 shots for the win, while Stamps' goalie Cole Holowenko stopped 21 of 27 shots in a losing cause. 

The Stamps will return home for their home opener Saturday night when they host the Wayway Wolverines 7:30 mb time from the Centennial Arena.

Wings' Rylan Parenteau stopped 22 shots for the shutout, while Kale Thomson stopped 21 of 24 in losing cause.

The Melville Millionaires came back from 3-0 down in the 3rd period to tie it up at 3 then just 12 seconds into overtime Kelvin Walz would get his 1st in SJHL to give Mils a 4-3 win over Estevan. 

Brady Constant, Landon Farrell, and TJ Reeve got other 3rd period goals for the Mils.

Richard Palmer stopped 23 shots for his first win as a Millionaire. 

The Mils return to action Tuesday when they host the Battlefords North Stars at 7:30 from the HCUC.

Mils fall in opener to Estevan

The Melville Millionaires fell in their season/home opener 4-2 to the visiting Estevan Bruins.

Tanner Froese got the Bruins on the board early with a 6:47 into period 1 to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. But the Mils would come back with 2 power play goals, one by veteran TJ Reeve while the other by rookie and Louisiana native Alex Devillier to give the Mils a 2-1 lead after 1. 

The Bruins would even it up on the power play 2:34 into the 2nd when Froese would deflect home his 2nd of the night to even it at 2 after 40 minutes.

It would stay that way until the Bruins would cash again on the power play as Austin Daae would get his first of the season to give Estevan a 3-2 lead. Then late, while on the man advantage Darcy Deroose would ice it to give the Bruins a 4-2 victory. 

Matt Gibney got the win in net while Isaiah Plett took the defeat in Mils' goal.

The rematch between these two teams will go Friday at Spectra Place in Estevan. 

Meanwhile our next broadcast will be on Friday when Swan Valley opens up against Virden, pregame 7:20 MB, PXP 7:30 mb time on GX94.

While Yorkton will be in Weyburn Friday to open up their season.

Terriers deal Oliver to Oil Caps




The Yorkton Terriers dealt 20 year old forward Curtis Oliver to the MJHL's Virden Oil Capitals for future considerations.

The Elkhorn, Manitoba will be moving closer to home, he had 21 points in 43 games with the Canalta Cup champion Terriers last season.

Stamps rout Blizzard to finish off preseason on high note

The Swan Valley Stampeders finished off their regular season on the right foot with a big 9-3 win over the OCN Blizzard. 

BJ Avery led the way for the Stamps with a hat trick and an assist while Cole Holowenko stopped 24 for the win.

Local SJHL Deals Made

The Melville Millionaires traded '95 born defenceman Kyle Bird (Regina SK) to the Estevan Bruins for cash considerations. Bird had 23 points in 44 games last season with the SMAAAHL's Tisdale Trojans last season and he is the younger brother of former Mils Tyler Bird. 

The Mils made another deal in acquiring '94 born dman Matt Carr from the Yorkton Terriers for future considerations. Carr, who has played 10-career games in the BCHL with Langley and Trail, collected 10-goals and 26-assists in 44-games with Fernie (KIJHL) last season.

Friday Local Preseason Action

The Swan Valley Stampeders defeated the Yorkton Terriers 9-3 at the Centennial Arena.
Max Provencher, Nic Erb BJ Avery, Daylon Creasy led the way for the Stamps with 1 goal & 2 assists each while Justin Valentino, Carter Johnson, Bo Sigurdson, Colton Brausen and Andrew Howard had other goals for Swan Valley.

Tyson Enzie, Dylan Baer and Jordon Ross replied for the Terriers meanwhile Matthew Cox and Zack Zadarozniak chipped in with 2 assists. 

Alex Vacarro and Andrew Sprang both got action in the net for the Stamps, Vacarro stopped 9 of 11 while Sprang stopped 8 of 9. Meanwhile for the Terriers Jett Salinas stopped 29 of 38 shots in a losing cause.

The Stamps will continue their preseason on Saturday when they visit the OCN Blizzard at 7:00 MB time while Terriers completed their preseason and will open up their season on Friday Sept 21 when they visit the Weyburn Redwings.

The Melville Millionaires got 5 goals in the 2nd period that led them to a 7-4 victory over the Notre Dame Hounds.

 Reed Murray and Alec Brandrup led the way with 2 goals each while Ashton Clark, Connor Tudor, Dylan Ostertag scored for the Mils.

Isaiah Plett and Kyle Baumgardner split the time in net for Melville. 

Mils will wrap up their preseason on Monday when they visit the Humboldt Broncos.

SJHL Announces New Viterra Division




**SJHL MEDIA RELEASE**

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) is proud to welcome Viterra to their corporate partnership team. As part of their agreement, the SJHL has created the Viterra Division, which consists of the Estevan Bruins, Melville Millionaires, Yorkton Terriers and the Weyburn Red Wings.

“This is an important partnership for the SJHL,” said Bill Chow president of the SJHL. “For close to 100 years, Viterra has been a leader in Saskatchewan and has a long and positive relationship with our rural communities just like the SJHL.”

The Yorkton Terriers (3-1) got revenge on their Highway 10 rivals as they defeated the Melville Millionaires (1-1) 5-1 on Tuesday night in SJHL Preseason action

Mils slip by Terriers 3-1 in Preseason Action

The Melvillle Millionaires opened up their preseason with a 3-1 win rivals over their Highway 10 rivals Yorkton Terriers on Monday night.

Terriers double up Stamps in Preseason Action

The Yorkton Terriers remained unbeaten intheir exhibition schedule with a 4-2 win over the Swan Valley Stampeders on Friday night.

Foam Lake's Zack Zadarozniak had 2 goals to lead the way for Terriers while Chase Norrish chipped with 2 assists. Stamps got a goal from former Victoria Royal forward Mitch Deacon

The Terriers goalies split between the pipes were Matt Kustra & Carson Bogdan , while the Stamps split duties between Alex Vacarro and Cole Holowenko.

The Stamps will visit Nipawin tonight, while the Terriers will visit the Melville Millionaires on Monday.

Mils acquire Walz from Lloydminster.



The Melville Millionaires have swung a deal with the AJHL's Lloydminster Bobcats for 20 year old forward Kelvin Walz for future considerations.

The Woodbury, Minnesota product had 6 goals, 13 assists for 19 points in 39 games last season with the Bobcats.
