Stamps beat Kings in Season opener; Mils win 1st of 16/17 in Fridays Jr. A Recap

The Swan Valley Stampeders started their 2016/17 MJHL season on the right foot, as they beat the visiting Dauphin Kings 3-1 on Friday night.

The Stamps got behind the eight ball early on as they were sent to the penalty box twice in the opening 4 minutes but they were able to get some momentum by killing both of them off behind some solid stops by Brett Evans. The Stamps used that momentum to get the only goal of the opening period as Tanner Koroscil would capitalize on a rebound from Brandon Holtby to flip it over top the Kings' goalie for his 1st of the season to give the home team a 1-0 lead after 1 period with the Kings leading the shot department at 16-11.

After a scoreless 2nd period, the Kings would tie it up early in the 3rd as Keaton Leininger would deflect home a Trevor Kavanaugh point shot that would get past Brett Evans for his 1st to make it 1-1. But just under 2 minutes later, Trevor Mann would regain the Stamps' 1 goal lead with a nice wrister inside the post to make it 2-1. Then Koroscil would get the insurance marker banging home his 2nd of the night to lead the Stamps to an opening night win, a 3-1 decision over the Dauphin Kings.

Grandview's Brett Evans was fantastic in the Stamps' goal making 44 saves on 45 shots for the W while Brandon Holtby made 32 saves in a losing cause for the Kings.

The Stamps' next action will be next Friday when they visit the Dauphin Kings while the Kings' are back at it on Saturday when they visit the OCN Blizzard.
