Stanley & Friesen lead Wolverines & Mils to victories on Wednesday night



The Waywayseecappo Wolverines are now winners in back to back games after a 3-2 overtime in Swan River over the Swan Valley Stampeders on Wednesday night.

The Wolverines would strike first very early in the hockey games as just 40 seconds in Brendan Martin would be left alone in front of the Stampeders net and he would get a pass out & slipped home his 17th of the season to make it 1-0 for the visitors in the opening minute. The Stamps would get back even though later in the period as Keaton Jameson would find a soft spot in front of the Wolverines' net and slip his 18th of the season past McKenzie Chalmers to make it 1-1 game after 1 period with shots at 12-10 Stampeders after 20 minutes.

Brendan Martin would continue to stay hot as he would add his 2nd of the night slipping it by Brett Evans for his 18th to make it 2-1 Wolverines. But just 18 seconds later, Cody Ellingson would take a nice pass in front as knock home his 12th to once again even it up this time at 2-2 after 40 minutes. Shots 24-22 Swan Valley.

After a scoreless 3rd period, the Wolverines would grab the extra point just 1:05 into the extra frame as Brandon Stanley (pictured above) would pick up a loose puck and slip it home for his 24th of the season to give the Wolverines the win in overtime at 3-2.

McKenzie Chalmers earned his 7th victory of the season in the Wolverine net as they turned aside 30 saves on 32 shots while Brett Evans in the shootout loss stopped 32 shots in the Stamps crease.

The Stamps despite the loss, still have a 4 point lead on Dauphin and 5 point lead on Neepawa for the final playoff spot in the MJHL standings. Wayway with the win, still sit 10 points back with 8 games to play.

Swan Valley Stampeders is back on home ice on Friday night when they host the Neepawa Natives while the Wolverines play a couple games this weekend against OCN starting Friday night vs. the Blizzard.

In the SJHL,




The Melville Millionaires got back into the win column as Brett Friesen (pictured above) earned his 1st win as a Millionaire making 32 saves to lead the Moneymen to a 4-2 win over the Kindersley Klippers.

Logan Karakochuk, Mitchell Torrens, Taylor Elmy and Dayton Heino scored for the Mils while Brendan Wagner and Cole Plotnikoff replied for the Klippers.

The Mils now with 2 games in hand are 8 points back of the Melfort Mustangs for the final playoff spot.

Melville looks for back to back wins on Friday night for their next game as they visit the Notre Dame Hounds. GX94 will broadcast the game with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey pregame 7:20, pxp at 7:30 from the Duncan McNeil Arena in Wilcox.
