Mils; Stamps win on Friday night Junior Recap

The Melville Millionaires earned their 2nd straight win on Friday night as they defeated the Weyburn Red Wings 3-1 on the road.

The Mils would strike first and get the only goal of the opening frame as a long Eric Soar point shot would draw a big rebound in front and Dayton Heino, who was playing in his 100th career Junior, would scoop it up and go top shelf on Arik Weersink for his 11th of the season to give the Moneymen a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. Shots 13-11 Melville.

It wouldn't take the Millionaires long to make it a two goal game as Kamsack’s Logan Foster (pictured above) would deflect home his 2nd of the year to make it 2-0 for the visitors. But the Red Wings would get one back just under 3 minutes later as Cole Woodliffe would gobble up on a loose puck in front of the Mils net and slide home his 7th of the campaign that made it a 2-1 Melville lead after 40 minutes. Shots were 29-22 Moneymen after 2 periods.

The Mild would add some insurance in the 3rd period as the Montana Streit and Cory Schillo would go in on a two on one and Streit would slide over a saucer pass to Schillo who redirected it home to give the Mils a 2 goal lead.

Colby Entz made 33 saves to earn his 2nd straight win in the Mils net while Arik Weersink turned aside 35 shots in the losing cause.

The Mils' next game will be on Wednesday night when they travel to Melfort while the Red Wings will host the Notre Dame Hounds on Tuesday night.

Elsewhere, the Yorkton Terriers let a late 3-1 lead slip away and then fell in a shootout 4-3 to the visiting Flin Flon Bombers.

Brenden Mark, Cole Keenleyside and Austen Flaman scored for the Terriers while Brody Madarash, Caleb Moretz and Brandson Hein would reply for the Bombers.

It would take 11 rounds before Moretz would scored the only goal in the shootout to give the Bombers the extra point.

Colten Lancaster turned aside 25 shots for the win while Ben Laidlaw was once again terrific making 45 saves in the Terriers' net.

The Terriers' next game will be on Tuesday night when they visit the top-ranked Nipawin Hawks. GX94 will broadcast the game with Yorkton Dodge Junior hockey, pregame 7:20 pxp at 7:30 from the Cage.

The Bombers wrap up their road-trip on Saturday when they take on the Humboldt Broncos.
