Stampeders' drop Sunday home game to Steinbach

The Swan Valley Stampeders dropped their 2nd to last game before the Christmas break on Sunday, falling 4-3 to the visiting Steinbach Pistons at the Centennial Arena.

The Pistons would get the only goal of the opening period as a Brandon Westbrook long shot would provide a big rebound in front and it would be Brady Tatro would be "Johnny on the Spot" & tuck home through the five-hole of Merek Pipes for his 16th goal of the season to make it 1-0 Steinbach after 1 period. Shots were 13-5 Stampeders.

Steinbach would continue their strong play into the 2nd and would add to their lead as just 3:21 in, Tanner Mole would deflect home a Brendan Martin pass past Pipes for his 13th of the season to make it 2-0. Then just 2:36 later, Brady Tatro would capitalize on a Stampeder turnover and snipe home his 2nd of the night to push their lead to 3. They would make it 4-0 just over half way through the 2nd as David Queree would pick up a rebound and beat the Stamps goaltender over the right shoulder. That goal would also spell a goaltender change as Michael Davis would come in for Merek Pipes. The Stamps would get one back before the 2nd buzzer would go off as Jaden Townsend would take a nice feed in the slot from Tanner McKechnie and put home his 12th of the year to cut the Stamps deficit to 4-1 after 40 minutes. Shots after 2 period were 21-15 Swan Valley.

In the 3rd, the MJHL's leading scorer Josh Tripp took over and almost brought his team back even. Tripp would kick things off with a PP goal just 1:28 into the final frame, his 25th of the season to make it a 4-2 game. He would then bring his team within one with his 2nd of the night with 3:11 to go in regulation but that's as close as they would get on this night.

Matt Lenz was solid in the Pistons' net making 29 saves on 32 shots. Meanwhile Stamps' starter Merek Pipes was pulled in 2nd after giving up 4 goals on 12 shots before being relieved by Michael Davis who turned aside all 10 shots he faced.

The Stampeders' will wrap up their pre Christmas schedule on Wednesday night when they host the Waywayseecappo Wolverines at the Centennial Arena. Puck drop will be at 7:30.
