Former Millionaires captain Cain commits to SAIT Trojans (ACAC)



Former Melville Millionaire captain Zach Cain has committed to advance his hockey career at the collegiate level. 

The Pilot Butte product will suit up with the SAIT Trojans (ACAC) in Calgary, Alberta starting this Fall. 

Cain had 84 points in 102 career SJHL games combined with the Millionaires and Flin Flon Bombers who acquired his services at his past year's Trade Deadline.

Ochapowace's Bear and Team Canada capture 2023 IIHF Men's World Championship Gold

 




Team Canada won a record 28th gold medal on Sunday when it defeated Germany 5-2 at the world men's hockey championship final in Tampere, Finland.

 Sammy Blais  scored twice for Canada, while Lawson Crouse, Tyler Toffoli (tuh-FOH-lee) and Scott Laughton added singles.

Ochapowace First Nation's Ethan Bear was a member of the World-Champion Canadian squad and was pointless in 8 games during the tournament.

2023 MJHL Draft set for Sun. June 4th

                                       


The Manitoba Junior Hockey League and its thirteen member clubs are pleased to announce that the 2023 MJHL Draft will be held on Sunday, June 4 starting at 9AM Manitoba time

The Draft will highlight players who are born in the year 2007.

Prior to the MJHL Draft, teams will also submit up to two (2) Auto-Protect selections from their designated home zone.

The Swan Valley Stampeders will have 6 total picks in the draft including the 11th overall selection, while the Waywayseecappo Wolverines are slated to select 4 times with their first pick coming in round 3.

Yorkton Sports Hall of Fame and Museum establishes new award



The Yorkton Sports Hall of Fame and Museum has established a new award, the Support for Sports Award, sponsored by the Yorkton Lions Club.

The award will be presented annually to individuals, businesses, clubs and organizations who have displayed a long-term and significant commitment to supporting amateur sports in Yorkton.
 
The support can take many forms, including volunteerism, financial or in-kind support, organizational assistance, traditional or new media excellence or other ways that have benefitted sports organizations or athletes.
 
It also provides an opportunity to recognize those who otherwise do not qualify for induction into the Hall of Fame but are deserving of recognition by the community

Nominations may be submitted anytime at www.yorktonsportshalloffame.ca with Deadline for nominations for the first presentations is Friday, August 11, 2023. 

The 2023 dinner is set to take place on Sept. 9th.

Team Saskatchewan captures third edition of Challenge Cup in Shoal Lake

 





Team Saskatchewan continued their dominance of Challenge Cup after capturing their 3rd straight game on Monday afternoon. 

The Saskatchewan squad comprised of graduating 9 - a side football players from across the province beat the Rural Manitoba Football League All-Stars (Team Manitoba) 51-14 in Shoal Lake, Manitoba. 

Saskatchewan led 37-7 at the half, and were able capitalize on 5 Manitoba turnovers. 

The Saskatchewan contingent will look for their 4th straight Challenge Cup victory next year in the game which will take place in the town of Foam Lake in 2024.

Terriers' graduating captain Cyca commits to Minot State

 




The Yorkton Terriers are proud to announce that graduating Captain Logan Cyca has committed to the defending National Champion, Minot State Beavers (ACHA) starting in the 2023/24 season. 

The product of Sherwood Park, Alberta played in 81 career games in a Terrier uniform contributing 44 points. 

This past season, his final of Junior hockey he had 7 goals, 14 assists for 21 points in 47 games.

Team Sask. getting ready for 2023 Challenge Cup set for this Monday in Shoal Lake, MB




The 2023 Challenge Cup 9- a side football All-Star game between Team Saskatchewan and Team Manitoba will take place on Monday in Shoal Lake, Manitoba.

Foam Lake Panthers coach Bill Ruetz will serve as the Head Coach for the Saskatchewan squad and he says he's looking forward to the game. 

"Yea it should be a great matchup, and be a great showcase of just how great the 9 a side game is." 

Kick-off is at 1:30PM MB time and admission to the game is $5 for Adults and $2 for Students.

Saskatchewan has won 2 straight including a win in the 2nd annual game last year in Melville.

Lemberg duo medal at SHSAA Provincial Badminton Championships in Unity

 



The Saskatchewan High School Provincial Badminton championships took place on Saturday in Unity and a local team was able to medal at the event. 

The mixed doubles team of Jake Mayo and Saren Petrychyn (pictured above) claimed a Bronze medal after beating the team from Wilkie in 2 sets. 

Lemberg's Jordan Hollinger (Boys Singles), Lemberg's Cruz Orellana & Connor Behrns (Boys Doubles and  Yorkton Sacred Heart's Anglea Fetsch (Girls Singles) also competed at the Provincials.

Millionaires' Robson commits to Castleton University (NCAA Div III) for 2023/24

 




Melville Millionaires graduating defenceman Aiden Robson has committed to play hockey at the collegiate level. 

The Kelowna, BC product will play with the Castleton University Spartans (NCAA Div III) starting in the Fall of 2023. 

Robson spent his entire Junior career in a Millionaires' uniform, playing in 98 games and compiling 28 points. 

This past year in his 20 year old campaign he scored 8 goals, 8 assists for 16 points in 48 games. 

Robson becomes the 6th Millionaires commit to hockey at the next level.

Ochapowace's Bear selected to represent Team Canada at 2023 IIHF Men's World Championships


                                                    


Twenty players have been selected to represent Team Canada at the 2023 IIHF Men's World Hockey Championships in Finland and Latvia.

Among those selected include Ochapowace First Nation's Ethan Bear of the Vancouver Canucks.

Bear suited up in 61 games this season, his first as a Canuck & compiled 3 goals, 13 assists for 16 points & 25 penalty minutes.

The 25 year old has suited up in 251 career NHL games with Edmonton, Carolina and Vancouver & pitched in with 63 points.

The Canadians open up the championships on May 12th against Latvia.

Yorkton Terriers sign '05 F Zawatzky; hold Spring Camp over weekend

 




The Yorkton Terriers have announced they've signed 2006-born forward Jye Zawatsky for the 2023/24 season. 

The Yorkton product had 5 goals, 9 assists for 14 points in  43 games with the Estevan Bears (SK U18 AAA) this past season.

Steinbach Pistons capture 2023 MJHL Turnbull Cup title




The Steinbach Pistons are your 2023 MJHL Turnbull Cup Champions.

The Pistons which included former Yorkton Terrier Parker Jasper claimed their third championship on home ice Saturday night, with a 3-0 victory over the Virden Oil Capitals, at the T.G. Smith Centre, to win the best-of-seven series in five games.

Steinbach captain, Dawson Milliken opened the scoring on a powerplay midway through the first, while Ty Paisley added another with the man advantage, with seven minutes to go in the opening frame.

Kirk Mullen iced the game with an empty-netter in the third.

Dominik Wasik stopped all 24 Virden shots, earning the shutout in the title-clincher.

Milliken, the Pistons' captain, was named the MJHL's playoff most valuable player.

The Pistons with the win book their ticket to the 2023 Centennial Cup, which begins later this month in Portage La Prairie.
