Pair of Local teams capture Provincial Championships on the diamond





PARKLAND EXPOS CAPTURE 2023 18U AA TIER 1 PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP


The Parkland Expos used home-turf to their advantage over the weekend to become Baseball Sask 18U AA Tier 1 champions. 

The Expos completed a perfect weekend with a 9-4 win over the Regina Pacers on Sunday at Jubilee Park.

Expos will now represent Saskatchewan at the 2023 Western Canadian 18U AA Baseball championships that'll run from August 18th to 20th in Kelowna, BC.

GRENFELL GEMS SUCCESSFULLY DEFEND 2023 SOFTBALL SASK MEN'S OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP 

Tony Sparvier hit a 3 run home-run to take the lead then struck out the side in the 7th to help the Grenfell Gems beat the Wynyard Blues 7-6 to capture the 2023 Softball Saskatchewan Men's Open Fastball championships in Earl Grey. 

Grenfell beat the Saskatoon Merchants and the Blues slipped by the host Rockets to advance to the championship final. 

The Rhein Rockets and the Neudorf Posse were the other local teams competing in the event.

MILLIONAIRES ADD TWO TO HOCKEY OPERATIONS STAFF

The Melville Millionaires of the SJHL have announced the hiring of Pete Cockburn as the Director of Player Personnel and Scott Orchison as our Assistant General Manager and Alberta Scout.



Cockburn has over 10 years of WHL scouting experience and is currently working with the Swift Current Broncos. 


 In the SJHL, Pete has spent the past five years working with the Nipawin Hawks. 


Orchison has an extensive background as well in the hockey world accumulating over 20 years of experience as a player and on the scouting ranks. 


 He spent four years as the Assistant General Manager with the Nipawin Hawks, and last season scouted with the Drumheller Dragons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. 


 He also spent eight years with the Edmonton Oilers in many different capacities.

YORKTON'S BEREZOWSKI INKS AHL DEAL WITH TORONTO MARLIES 

Yorkton product Jackson Berezowski has signed his first professional contract, inking up with the Toronto Marlies on a 1 year AHL deal. 


Berezowski, broke the Silvertips’ single-season record for goals in a season in 2022-23 (48; most in the Western Conference) while finishing with a career-high 81 points in 62 games.


In 273 career WHL games, he scored 130 goals, 102 assists for 232 points.

Two graduating Swan Valley Stampeders announce Hockey commitments



The Swan Valley Stampeders are pleased to announce that a pair of graduating 20-year-olds will advance their hockey careers at the collegiate level starting this Fall.

Forward Noah Wilson (pictured above right) has committed to play for the Vancouver Island University Mariners in Nanaimo, B.C, while netminder & 2023 MJHL Goalie of the Year Kobe Grant (pictured above left) will suit up with the NCAA Division 3's Wisconsin-Superior Yellow Jackets.

Wilson, a native of St. Albert, Alta collected 13 goals, adding 23 assists during this past season while adding six assists in 12 playoff games.

Grant, posted a 2.69 GAA and a .933 SV% during 45 regular season games and followed that up with a 2.97 GAA and a .917 SV% in 12 playoff games last season.

Swan River's Zamzow captures Manitoba Junior Girls Golf Championship

 


It's a 2nd Manitoba Junior Golf Championships for Swan River's Crystal Zamzow.

Zamzow fired a final round of 2 under par 70 on Wednesday in Teulon, MB,  which was good for a seven shot win over Clear Lake's Jeri Lafleche. 

Zamzow who golfs out of the Swan River Golf & Country Club had a three round combined event score  of 221, finishing +5 overall. 

Zamzow has now advanced and will compete at the 2023 Canadian Junior Girls Golf Championships in Hampton, New Brunswick from July 24th to July 27th.
