Melville Millionaires & Yorkton Terriers make moves ahead of CJHL Holiday Trade Freeze

The Melville Millionaires and Yorkton Terriers completed a couple deals ahead of the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Trade Freeze.

The evening of Dec. 10 marked the Christmas Trade Freeze across the CJHL, which means that teams can no longer complete trades until Jan. 1 in the hopes of avoiding player movement during the holiday season.

The Millionaires acquired 20-year-old forward Willian Forsberg from the La Ronge Ice Wolves in exchange for 18-year-old defenceman Owen Turner and 2007-born prospect and defenceman Jordan Abrametz.

Forsberg, a Illinois product, was pointless in 10 games with Ice Wolves this season, but had 23 points in 53 games last season with the SJHL club.

Turner had zero points in eight games with Mils this season, while Abrametz was a 2023 SJHL draft pick of the Moneymen and currently has 11 points in 25 games with the Prince Albert Mintos (SK U18 AAA Hockey League) this year.

Meanwhile for the Yorkton Terriers, they dealt 20-year-old forward Aiden Knutson to the Olds Grizzlys of the Alberta Junior Hockey League for a player development fee.

The Red Deer, Alberta product suited up in 112 career games in a Terrier uniform, compiling 26 goals, 34 assists for 60 points.

This season, he had six goals and 15 points in 21 games.

Other SJHL deals:

- The Nipawin Hawks trade D Landon Pappas (‘05)  to the Calgary Canucks (AJHL) in exchange for F Jack Schierau (‘06).

- The Humboldt Broncos trade F Gabriel Fillion (‘04)  to the Drayton Valley Thunder (AJHL) in exchange for F Zach Bansley (‘05)
