Swan River's Will Munro helps Melfort Mustangs repeat as SJHL Canterra Seeds Cup champions

A dream came true for 19-year-old Will Munro when he and his Melfort Mustangs teammates

The Swan River, Manitoba product won the SJHL Canterra Seeds Cup title on home ice with a 3-0 win over the Weyburn Red Wings in the fifth and deciding game of their league championship series on Sunday night.

“It’s pretty surreal, just when the buzzer went off and seeing the sold-out barn going crazy, it was a pretty amazing moment that I’ll never forget,” Munro said the morning after the win.

The Mustangs dominated the SJHL playoffs, sporting a 12 and 2 record, while allowing just 1.56 goals against average through the 14 games.

“We were just able to follow through with our consistent, defensive play, and credit to everyone, including our coaches, for having a good game-plan in place.”

Munro won the title alongside cousin Ashton Paul and fellow Swan River product Bo Eisnor, who won his second straight title.

The Mustangs now advance to their second straight Centennial Cup National Junior A Hockey Championships that begins May 8th in Calgary, Alberta
