ESTEVAN BRUINS 5, MELVILLE MILLIONAIRES 3
The Estevan Bruins earned a measure of payback from Friday’s loss in Melville, skating to a 5-3 victory over the Millionaires in their home opener Saturday night at Affinity Place.
Rorey Elson and Colton Getzlaff each had a goal and an assist to pace the Bruins’ attack, with Chase Holt, Ethan Andrews, and Kade Stringer also finding the back of the net.
Leo Jewitt continued his hot start for Melville, scoring twice to give him three goals in as many games, while Devon Winder added a single.
Dylan Adams made 29 saves on 32 shots for his first win in a Bruins uniform. At the other end, Mils starter Connor Dodyle allowed four goals on 18 shots before being replaced by Noah Sinagowitz, who stopped all 13 shots he faced in relief.
The Millionaires return home Friday to host the Humboldt Broncos, while Estevan gets set for a home-and-home series next weekend with the Weyburn Red Wings.
WEYBURN RED WINGS 6, YORKTON TERRIERS 2
The Weyburn Red Wings struck three times on the power play and completed a sweep of their season-opening home-and-home with Yorkton, downing the Terriers 6-2 on Saturday.
Drew Molde scored twice to lead the charge, while Josh Adlys, Turner McIntyre, Roan Burgess, and Carter Bergen also tallied. Yorkton native Preston Patenaude made 35 saves for his first career SJHL victory.
Gabrielle Courchesne notched his third goal of the year for the Terriers, with veteran forward Vinay Junek adding the other.
Terriers starter Callum Creig turned aside 19 of 23 shots before giving way to Alexandro Montoya, who allowed two goals on 11 attempts in relief.
Yorkton will look for their first win of the season Sept. 30 when they host Estevan. Weyburn returns to action Tuesday in Humboldt.
OTHER GAMES In Kindersley, Anthony Campbell scored twice and Gavin Granger put up five points as the Battlefords North Stars doubled up the Klippers 6-3. The Flin Flon Bombers moved to 2-0 with a convincing 5-1 victory over the La Ronge Ice Wolves, led by Ryder Mucha’s two goals.
Owen Parks scored the first goal in Warman Wolverines franchise history, but Humboldt spoiled the occasion with a 3-1 win. Broncos goaltender Charlie Tritt continued his stellar start, making 33 saves and allowing just one goal on 64 shots through his first two games. ========== MJHL:The Swan Valley Stampeders had their record drop to 1 and 1 on the season after 7-0 road loss on Saturday night to the Dauphin Kings.
Ethan Stewart scored twice to lead the way for the Kings, who got singles from Cam Jansa, Rylan Gage, Nicholas Zaharias, Joey Kubas and Kale Pratte.
Bryson Yaschyshyn stopped all 33 shots he faced for the shutout, while Stampeders starter Samuel Bastien allowed seven goals on 43 shots in the loss.
The Stampeders return to action on Friday night when they start a two game road trip in Selkirk before battling the Winnipeg Blues on Saturday night.
