Melville's Matichuk claims 3rd at 104th Saskatchewan Men's Amateur Golf Championships in Estevan

It wasn't the back nine that Mitchell Matichuk was looking for but all in all it was pretty solid week for the 22 year old Melville product at the 104th Saskatchewan Men's Amateur Golf Championships in Estevan.

After going out in 2 under 34 on the front nine, Matichuk had 3 bogeys & 1 double bogey on the back 9 to end off with a final round 75 which was still good enough for +5 and an overall finish of 3rd place.

Winnipeg's Charles Boyechko was crowned champion by 1 shot over Prince Albert golfer Danny Klughart after he also shot a final round of 3 over 75 to finish at plus-2.

Two other local products made the cut at the championship as Dallas Lequyer of Carlyle finished in a tie for 12th after a final round 76. Meanwhile 17 year old Kipling product Carson Harcourt finished in a tie for 22nd.

Matichuk will now be apart of Team Saskatchewan at the upcoming 2015 Canadian Men's Amateur Golf Championships which will take place August 10th-13th in Toronto, Ontario.

I caught up with Matichuk to talk about the event below:
