Legien plays hero as Terriers earn OT win over Millionaires

The Yorkton Terriers earned a split of the first Highway battle of the 2016/17 regular season as they came back to defeat the Melville Millionaires 4-3 on Saturday night from the Farrell Agencies Arena.

In the 1st, the Terriers for the 2nd straight night would strike first as Corwin Stevely would feed Regan Seiferling on a nice backdoor feed for his 3rd of the season on the powerplay to give the home squad a 1-0 advantage after 1 period. The Mils led in the shot department 15-5.

The Mils would add a couple in the middle frame as first off Melville product Tyler Kreklwich would make a couple nice moves and wrist it just over the left pad of Matt Vernon for his 2nd of the campaign to even it up at 1-1. Then a short time later, on 2 on 1 rush Mils dman Clayton Eisler would beat Vernon short side for his 3rd to give the Moneymen a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. The Mils also had the advantage in shots after 2 at 25-14.

In the 3rd, the Terriers would draw even at 2-2 as Jared Legien, in his 2nd game with the Terriers would get his 1st goal in a Terrier uniform. But just 8 seconds later, the Mils would respond as Tyler Kreklewich would get his 2nd of the night & 3rd of the season to regain Melville's one goal lead at 3-2. It would stay like that until 2:33 left as McKenzie Welke would take a nice feed in the slot for his first of the season to make it 3-3 headed to the overtime period.

Legien would add his 2nd of the game just 40 seconds into the overtime period as he would go bar down on Evan Plotnik to give the Terriers their 3rd win of the season a 4-3 decision over the Millionaires.

Matt Vernon got his 1st SJHL victory in his 3rd start stopping 33 of 36 shots while Evan Plotnik, making his first start in a Mils uniform since being acquired from the Melfort Mustangs made 22 saves in the overtime defeat.

The Terriers return back to home ice on Tuesday night as they host the Estevan Bruins at 7:30 from the FAA while the Mils will head back out on the road on Friday night when they visit the La Ronge Ice Wolves at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.
