Sunday Local Hockey Recap

In the SJHL,

The Melville Millionaires had 3 game winning streak heading into the weekend, and they leave it on a 3 game losing streaking after dropping their 3rd straight on the road, 3-1 to the Nipawin Hawks.

Aaron Aragon had the lone goal for the Mils, his 1st in the SJHL while Yorkton product Brett Harasymuk had 2 goals for the Hawks in the win.

Kristian Stead made 18 saves on 19 shots for the W in goal while Colby Entz made 25 saves in the losing cause.

The Mils return to action on Friday night for the 1st of 10 Highway 10 battles on the season as they host the Yorkton Terriers at 7:30 from the Horizon Credit Union Center.



In the MJHL,

The Swan Valley Stampeders had a 3-1 lead heading into the 3rd period, but then surrendered 3 third period goals to drop a 4-2 decision to the visiting Portage Terriers.

Jeremy Leipsic had 1G 2A to lead the way for the Terriers while Cody Ellingson and Body Vaeth replied with the Stamps markers.

Stamps netminder Brett Evans made 24 saves in the losing cause while Brock Aiken turned aside 27 shots for the W in the Portage net.

The Stamps return to action on Saturday night when they host the Winkler Flyers at the Centennial Arena at 7:30PM MB time

Elsewhere in Waywayseecappo,

The Wolverines dropped their 5th straight to start the season, losing 9-1 to the Steinbach Pistons at the Wayway Arena Complex.

Ty Enns' 3rd goal of the season was the only marker for Wayway while former Dauphin King Landon Plett had a hat trick & and an assist to power the Pistons' offence.

Matt Radomsky only had to make 16 saves to get the win for the Pistons while Corban Clunas (16 saves on 22 shots) and Martin Gagnon (17 of 20) split the goaltending duties for Waywayseecappo.

The Wolverines' will be Neepawa next Sunday for their next game at the Yellowhead Center.



In the Sask. Midget AAA Hockey League,

Nolan Maier made 61 saves to help power the Yorkton Rawtec Maulers to a 4-1 win over the Beardy's Blackhawks.

Beau Stevenson, Ryder Pierson, Kaeden Korczak and Aiden Bulych had the goals for the Maulers.

Their next action will be on Saturday afternoon at 2PM when they host the Saskatoon Contacts at the Farrell Agencies Arena.



In the Sask. Female Midget AAA Hockey League,

After a 2-1 SO win on Saturday, the Melville Prairie Fire dropped their record to 1-1 on Sunday with a 6-2 loss to the Swift Current Wildcats.

Cheyanne Fishley and Georgia Kotylak scored for Fire while Prairie Fire goalie Ashlyn Taillon made 20 saves in the loss.

Melville's next game will be on Sat. Oct 15th when they entertain the Battlefords Sharks at 7:30.



In Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey,

The Parkland Rangers split their weekend games, after a win over Pembina Valley on Saturday, they then dropped a 4-1 matchup to the Eastman Selects on Sunday afternoon.

Swan River's Carter Cockburn had the lone goal for the Rangers while Swan River's Nicholas Arp made 38 saves in the losing cause.
