The Yorkton Terriers suffered their 3rd straight loss on Tuesday night, losing 7-4 to the visiting Weyburn Red Wings at the Farrell Agencies Arena.
The Red Wings would come out with a pretty good opening road period and they would strike first as Carson Rose would one-time home his 15th of the season to make it 1-0 Red Wings just 5:30 in. Landon Walters would make it 2-0 at the 15:17 mark as Landon Walters would make a nice move and put home his 5th of the year. Then with just 30 seconds left and just as their power play expired Tyran Brown would jam home his 13th to give the visitors a 3 goal lead at 3-0 after 1 period with shots being 18-9 Red Wings.
The Terriers would get off to a very quick start to begin the middle frame as just 23 seconds into the 2nd, Kronau product Jordan Ross would bang home his 11th of the season to make it 3-1 Red Wings. It would stay like that until 1:42 left to go in the 2nd and it would be Landon Walters' once again as he would take a big bounce off the end boards and slip it by former Red Wing Nathan Hargrave for his 2nd of the night to restore Weyburn's 3 goal lead at 4-1 after 40 minutes with shots (10-9 Weyburn in the 2nd) & 28-18 Red Wings in the shot department after 2 periods.
Landon Walters' would complete the hat trick, his 1st in the SJHL very early into the 3rd period to make it a 5-1 Red Wings lead. Jared Legien would then score back to back for the Terriers 12:23 apart in the 3rd, his 19th and 20th of the season to make it a 2 goal lead at 5-3. But the Red Wings would come right back and regain that 3 goal lead as Erik Olson's long shot would beat Hargrave for his 5th to make it 6-3. The Terriers would once again get a little closer as Reid Anderson's long point shot pinball off a Red Wings' defender and by Carter Phair, for his 3rd of the campaign to make it 6-4 Weyburn. Carson Rose though would ice it into the empty net with 8 seconds to go to help the Red Wings win their 2nd straight, with the 3 goal win.
Carter Phair made 30 saves for his 4th win of the season in Red Wing net while Nathan Hargrave turned aside 32 of 38 shots in the losing cause.
The Terriers are back in action on Friday night for a neutral site game in Fort Qu'Appelle at 7:30 when they battle the Notre Dame Hounds at the Fort Rexentre.

Moose Jaw's Barker wins 2017 Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Melville
(Courtesy of Curl Sask)
For the first time since 1999 the Saskatchewan Women's Curling champion comes from Moose Jaw.
Penny Barker found herself out to an early 5-2 lead after 5 ends after steals in the first three ends but then after a giving up 3 in the 9th trailed 7-6 but her hit for 4 in the 10th helped her beat North Battleford's Robyn Silvernagle 10-7 to win the 2017 Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Melville.
"It's definitely a dream come true, you always pictured that shot you have to win a provincial ladies title, and this year it was my chance and I'm glad I was able to make it", the 31 year old Barker said after the big win.
For Silvernagle and her rink of Dayna Demers, Cristina Goertzen, Kara Thevenot and coach Gerald Shymko, it was a disappointing end to what was great week after clinching 1st with a 7-1 record, they then went on to beat former champion Stephanie Lawton in the 1 vs. 2 Page Playoff game.
"Ya it's definitely disappointing for the girls they had a great week, we weren't able to get off to a good start and with a one game showdown those things happen and the Barker team made a lot of great shots", Calder product and Silvernagle Coach Gerald Shymko said after the loss.
Barker and her rink of Deanna Doig, Lorraine Schneider, Danielle Sicinski and Coach Merv Fonger will now wear the green and white & represent Saskatchewan at the 2017 Scotties Tournament of Hearts taking place February 16th-26th in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Stamps drop 3rd straight, 7-1 to the visiting Blizzard
The Swan Valley Stampeders drop their 3rd straight game & 3rd game to OCN this season dropping a 7-1 decision to the Blizzard on Wednesday night.
The Blizzard would come out with a very good road period in the 1st and they would be rewarded with the opening goal as 20 year old Jeremy Dumont would finish off a nice passing play by his line mates George King & Tristan Elie would knock home his 13th of the season to give the visitors a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes with the shots also favouring OCN with a 15-6 edge.
Jeremy Dumont would pick up where he left off from the first as he would help to add to the lead as he pot home his 2nd of the night and 14th of the season to make it 2-0 just 5:36 into the 2nd. Then just under a minute later, the Blizzard would make it 3-0 as George King would add his team-leading 26th of the season. But just 1:10 later, the Stamps would get on the board as Jason Cohan would drive hard to the net, his shot was stopped but the rebound came out to Stephen Perrault who banged home his 1st MJHL gaol to cut the Stamps to within 2 at 3-1. Shots after 40 minutes were 39-14 (24-8 in the 2nd).

Stefanie Lawton and Robyn Silvernagle jump ahead of the field early after Draw 2 concluded this evening, both sitting at the top of the standing board as of now with 2-0 records. Stefanie Lawton battled with Brett Barber tonight (both winning their openers) and we witnessed a back and forth matchup all night long. Both teams were tied up after the break at 4-4, while it was Lawton who broke out to a large lead with three point ends in the 7th & 9th, eventually running Barber out of stones and taking a 10-7 win.
Our featured webcast game tonight included Mandy Selzer vs. Nancy Martin, which saw Selzer hold on to a 4-3 lead heading into the 7th end. Selzer took advantage of a few Martin mistakes and ended up scoring a huge four point end in the 7th to ultimately seal the deal with a 10-5 win.
Meanwhile, Sherry Anderson faced off with Penny Barker and it was Anderson jumping out to a 4-1 lead heading into the break. Barker then responded right away in the 6th with a quick score of three, followed up with a steal of one. After both teams traded deuces and Barker picking up a three ender, this one needed an extra end. Barker having the last stone advantage did not waste using it and scored her single point to take it 9-8.
Last but not least Robyn Silvernagle went head to head with Chantelle Eberle, with both teams winning their opening game this afternoon. Both teams making fabulous shots throughout the game saw a back and forth battle take place, but it was Silvernagle who scored the only two multi point ends throughtout this one that made the difference as she takes this game 6-4.
Next action begins Wednesday at 10am during our Provincial Day of Curling in Saskatchewan! Make sure to contact your local clubs for activities that may be occurring throughout the day! Or if your in Melville stop by the Horizon Credit Union Centre!
