Terriers win 2nd straight in thrilling fashion on Tuesday night

The Yorkton Terriers won their 2nd straight game on Tuesday night as they beat the visiting Melfort Mustangs 4-3 at the Farrell Agencies Arena.

After a back and forth 1st period, the Mustangs would strike in the final minute as AP forward & Yorkton Rawtec Mauler forward Beau Stevenson would jump on a loose rebound and flip it over top of goaltender Ben Laidlaw for his 1st goal to make it a 1-0 Melfort after 1 period. Shots were 15-8 Mustangs.

Just over the half way point of the 2nd period, the Terriers would draw even as Cole Keenleyside would take a nice pass across from Dino Antonidas and hammer home his 7th of the season to make it 1-1. Then just 3:45 later, the home team would grab their first lead of the night as Austin Wieler's side angle shot would find its way through a screen Hunter Arps for the rookie defenceman's 2nd of the campaign to make it 2-1. But the Mustangs would knot it up with a late power play goal as Andrew Thompson would get his 8th of the year to even it up at 2-2 after 40 minutes.

The Terriers would regain their lead just 4:24 into the 3rd period as Quin Hobbs (pictured above) would head in alone and go back-hand shelf over Arps for his 3rd of the season to make it 3-2. It would stay like that til the final minute as with just 48 seconds left and an empty-net, Colin Schmidt would bang home his 11th of the year to tie the game back up this time at 3-3. The game looked like it would be headed for the overtime period, but Chantz Petruic had other ideas as would force a turnover at his own blueline and head on a breakaway with 19.1 seconds and make no mistake to give the Terriers the 2 points in thrilling fashion.

Ben Laidlaw was once again solid in the Terriers' crease making 36 saves for his 2nd straight win. Mustangs' goaltender Hunter Arps turned aside 23 shots in the losing cause.

The Terriers' next action will be on Friday night when they visit Wilcox to battle the Notre Dame Hounds. GX94 will broadcast the game with Yorkton dodge Junior hockey, pregame 7:50, pxp at 8PM from the Duncan McNeil Arena.
