Klippers named Grimwood New Head Coach/ GM
(Kindersley Klippers Press Release)
After several weeks of vacancy, the Iron Horse Kindersley Klippers are pleased to announce the Head Coach & General Manager position has been filled. The Klippers would like to welcome Coach Geoff Grimwood to the organization.
"I am very excited by the opportunity to join the Kindersley Klippers and join the community of Kindersley,” said Grimwood, “I feel we have a really great opportunity to build on the previous success of the team, and feel we have the pieces in place to continue to get better as a team.
“I am looking forward to reaching out to all of our returning players,” Grimwood continued,
“Next season really starts today, and we are going to be an extremely hard working hockey club. I would like to once more thank Garnet Gramlich and the Klippers Board for this opportunity, and look forward to becoming part of the community in Kindersley.”
Grimwood comes to the Klippers after serving as an Assistant Coach with the Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League (WHL) during the 2012-2013, 2013-2014, and 2014-2015 seasons. During that time he also oversaw the South Island Royals Major Midget Program of the British Columbia Major Midget League (BCMML) for parts of parts of 3 seasons.
Prior to his time with the Victoria Royals with the Victoria Royals, Grimwood spent two years as an Assistant Coach with the Powell River Kings of the British Columbia Hockey Leauge (BCHL). During his time in the Powell River, Grimwood helped the team to a BCHL Regular Season Title in 2010-2011, as well as two BCHL Coastal Conference Championships.
Geoff began his coaching career in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League and spent 4 seasons coaching both the Victoria Cougars and Peninsula Panthers. During that time Grimwood was a part of 3 VIJHL Championships and one Cyclone Taylor Cup Provincial Championship.
As a player Geoff was played in the BCHL for the Victoria Salsa (now Grizzlies) and for the Red Deer College Kings of the Alberta College Athletic Conference.

2015 MJHL Draft on June 7th to be broadcasted on TV
(from mjhlhockey.ca)
Fans of the MJHL will be able to watch the 2015 Bantam Draft live on television and online for a national audience. This year’s draft ─ six rounds in total ─ is being held Sunday, June 7 in Neepawa.
The entire event, which begins at 9 a.m., will be televised live on NAC-TV, which is currently available in over 1.2 million homes across Canada through MTS and Bell TV services. For those without MTS or Bell TV, the draft will also be streamed live on nactv.ca.
For the MJHL, partnering with NAC-TV and the Neepawa Natives to televise the draft live provides an exciting opportunity to involve all of its fans, players, potential draft picks, and future draft picks in one of the league's most important annual events.
"The draft is an exciting time for our league every season," MJHL Commissioner Kim Davis said. "A lot of time is put into preparing, and scouting, for this event. Teams are making decisions that will provide the building blocks for their teams for years to come. We are happy to give our players and fans the opportunity to take part in the draft process this year.
"This is also an exciting announcement for young hockey players and their families. These athletes have dedicated much of their lives to their hockey career," Davis said. "Our league and teams are committed to building communities and relationships, and we are proud of the potential this provides for families, friends and even entire minor hockey teams to watch the 2015 MJHL Draft together and celebrate their accomplishments."
The live feed through NAC-TV will feature commentary from MJHL team personnel, interviews with all teams and the league commissioner. Viewers will be provided with information on all draft picks throughout the morning and round recaps. A total of 66 players will be selected in the 2015 draft.

Portage Terriers: 2015 RBC Cup National Champions
(mjhlhockey.ca)
Portage Terriers are the best team in Junior A hockey – RBC Cup champions!
The host Terriers capped a historic season with a thrilling 5-2 win Sunday night over Carleton Place Canadians. The win, before a frenzied PCU Centre audience, snapped a 41-year championship drought for the MJHL. The 2015 Terriers now join the 1973 Terriers and 1974 Selkirk Steelers as national Junior A champions.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling,” Terriers’ captain Tanner Jago told CFRY-Radio. “We’ve worked so hard for this day to come. It’s a dream come true. I can’t say enough about our team. What an unbelievable group of guys.”
“At the start of the year, this was our goal. But now that we have actually done it, it really hasn’t settled in. It’s an unforgettable feeling. It’s a special moment for all of us. We knew we were going to have a great group. We really jelled in August (training camp).”
It was the first time in 10 years that a host team has captured the RBC Cup; the last being the Weyburn Red Wings. And the Terriers’ soaked up every second of the moment: with each player doing the traditional championship lap.
“I feel so happy for our guys,” said Terriers’ GM/Head Coach Blake Spiller, a Portage native who also played for the Terriers. “Everybody always said it was surreal, and unreal. It’s such a long process. To actually get it done, it’s everything you hope it will be.”
“It’s been a long season. It was a tough final game. We kept at it and stuck to our game plan. This is very special. I was really happy to see the clock get to the one minute mark.”
The win did not come without some tense moments. Jordyn Boyd scored a power-play goal in the third period to give the Terriers breathing room: 3-1. The Bowles brothers then added a goal apiece to send the PCU crowd into a championship frenzy.
Terriers received goals from Grant Valiquette, Davis Ross, Boyd, Brad and Shawn Bowles.
“This is amazing, just amazing,” said Ross. “We just took it to them. I wanted to throw my bucket as high as I could. It’s such an unreal feeling.”
The championship run couldn’t have been sweeter for hometown product Zack Waldvogel, who ended his Junior A career in championship style.
“This is amazing,” he said. “I can’t explain the feeling when the buzzer went off. To get it done is amazing. My buddies were here with me all along. To win in front of them is unbelievable. Terriers is a first-class organization.”
Terrier defenceman Landon Peel was all smiles, as he skated around the ice with his RBC championship hat.
“This is the best, surreal feeling,” he said. “It (RBC Cup) was a heavy trophy, kind of surprised me. As for this game, we all stuck together and stuck to our game plan. It really worked out for us.”
Shawn Bowles, who sealed the deal with the fourth goal, was thrilled with the championship outcome.
“We kept it simple,” said the native of Elkhorn. “We knew they were fast. We wanted to chip pucks and keep them in their zone. I really can’t believe the feeling right now. Definitely going to celebrate.”
Carleton Place, who lost the RBC Cup final last season to Yorkton Terriers, were left shaking their heads in frustration due to the outstanding play of goaltender Zac Robidoux, who was named player of the game.
“This is just an unbelievable feeling,” said Robidoux. “When I was told I was playing I couldn’t sleep. This is the best feeling in the world. Fans are loving it, I’m loving it, everybody is loving it. We were able to hold them off early. We overcame their systems and executed perfectly.”
EXTRA POINTS: This was the fourth RBC Cup appearance (2005, 2011, 2012) for the Terriers, who finished the previous three in fifth spot…Terriers’ overall record this season was an incredible 74-6-4.

Shawn
Bowles scored once and added two assists to lead the offence and lead
the host Portage Terriers to a 5-2 win over the Carleton Place Canadians
in the championship game Sunday night at the 2015 RBC Cup.
The national title is
the second for the Terriers, who won the Centennial Cup in 1973, while
the Canadians became the first team ever to finish as national runner-up
in consecutive seasons.
Portage is also the seventh host team to be crowned national champions since the start of the five-team format in 1990, and the first since the Weyburn Red Wings in 2005.
Grant Valiquette, Davis Ross, Jordyn Boyd and Brad Bowles had the other goals for the Terriers, who capped a dominating season that saw them finish with ridiculous 74-5-5 in the regular season, playoffs and RBC Cup.
Alex Robinson and Maxime St. Pierre scored for Carleton Place.
The standing-room-only crowd at the PCU Centre was rocking from the first puck drop, showing just why home ice had been so good to the Terriers all season; Portage was 37-3-1 as the host.
Valiquette gave them even more to cheer about at the 14:13 mark of the opening period, taking advantage of a bobbled puck at the Canadians blue-line and roofing a wrist shot over the glove of Carleton Place goaltender Guillaume Therien on a breakaway.
Ross doubled the Portage lead at 2:42 of the second, dropping the puck off to Garick Gray and driving to the net before knocking in the rebound of a Shawn Bowles shot.
Robinson got that back with 7:13 to go in the middle frame, finishing off a three-on-one break by going bar-down over the shoulder of Terriers netminder Zac Robidoux to cut the lead to one through 40 minutes.
Boyd took advantage of a four-minute Portage power play early in the third period, knocking in a gorgeous no-look, behind-the-back feed from Dane Schioler, and Brad Bowles batted a bouncing puck five-hole on Therien six minutes later on another man advantage to push the lead to 4-1.
With the PCU Centre on its feet in the dying minutes, Shawn Bowles found the empty net with 2:58 remaining to officially get the party started, although St. Pierre scored with 60 seconds left to cap the scoring.
The RBC Cup heads west next spring, with Lloydminster, Alta., and the AJHL’s Lloydminster Bobcats playing host to Canada’s 46th National Junior A Championship.
