Mils drop season opener, 5-2 to the Estevan Bruins

The Melville Millionaires didn't get their 2015/16 SJHL season to the start they wanted dropping a 5-2 decision to the Estevan Bruins in the teams home opener at the Horizon Credit Union Center.

The Mils got off to a good start to their 2015/16 SJHL season and they would be rewarded with the first goal as rookie forward Cole Filler would deflect home his 1st SJHL marker on the powerplay through goaltender Tyler Fuhr to give the Mils an early 1-0 lead just 5:07 into the game. The Bruins would respond 6:10 later as Captain Keegan Allison would get a stick on his 1st to even things up at 1-1. The visitors would get their first lead of the night at the 15:04 mark as Kaelan Holt would finish up a nice passing play from Ryan Duret to make it 2-1. Bruins forward Lyndon Pastachak would be rewarded with a penalty shot late in the first and he would make no mistake to give the Bruins a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.  Shots 18-8 Bruins.

In the 2nd, the Mils once again got off to a good start as Fruitvale, BC product Mitch Foyle chipped in with his 1st SJHL goal to cut the Mils deficit to just 3-2.  But then the Mils would get into a little penalty trouble, and Braden Oleskyn would direct home a nice feed back from Darcy Deroose to regain the Bruins' 2 goal lead. Then just a short time later, Keaton Longpre would add to that lead with his 1st of the season to push the lead to 5-2 which it would stay as the visitors got the 1st of the SJHL campaign.

20 year old Tyler Fuhr got the win in net for the Bruins stopping 24 of 26 shots. The Mils will split their duties, as David Anderson turned aside 14 of 17 shots before he was pulled from the game due to injury. 18 year old Jeff Veitch relieved Anderson and made 16 saves on 18 shots.

The two teams will go right back at it on Friday night from Affinity Place starting at 7:30.
