The Yorkton Terriers started off their SJHL Semi-Final off on the wrong foot after a 6-2 defeat at the hands of the Battlefords North Stars on Friday night.

The Terriers would strike first in Game 1 as with just one second left on their first PP of the night Cole Keenleyside would beat Joel Gryzbowski short-side for his 4th of the playoffs to give the Terriers a 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes. Shots after 1 were 14-9 in favour of the North Stars.

The North Stars power play would once again strike early in the 3rd with two PP goals just 28 seconds apart from Eli Loon-Stewardson and Ryan Gil to push the Battlefords lead to 5-1 just over 2 minutes in. The Terriers would make it a three goal game once again though as Kishaun Gervais would pick up a loose puck in the crease and beat the North Stars net minder for his 1st SJHL Playoff goal to make it 5-2 but a late goal from Austin Shumanski in the final minute would help wrap up the scoring to help the home team to a series opening victory.

The Swan Valley Stampeders have pushed the Steinbach Pistons to the brink of elimination after a 6-3 Game 4 victory on Thursday night to take a 3-1 series lead their Best of 7 MJHL Semi-Final.

For the 2nd straight night the Stamps would get the opening goal as after some great pressure deep in the attacking zone, Bradly Goethals would walk out from the left corner and his back-hander would beat Matt Radomsky five-hole for his 6th of the playoffs to give Swan a 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes with the Stamps leading the shot column 21-10.

Alex Uryga (pictured above) would add to the Swan lead with an unassisted mark just 1:54 into the 2nd period, but just after that Jack Kilroy got the Pistons on the board just under 2 minutes later to make it a one game goal once again. The Stamps would quickly respond though as Josh Tripp would finish a tic-tac-toe passing play hammering in a cross-ice feed from Brad Goethals for his 6th of the playoffs that made it 3-1. Then Tucker Scantlebury would get one late in the middle frame for Swan with a nice back-hander to give them a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes. Shots after 2 were 38-21 Stampeders.

Declan Graham would cut their deficit within two early in the 3rd with a PP goal just 43 seconds in to make it 4-2. Then just under 4 minutes later, 20 year old Tucker Scantlebury would get left alone right in the slot after a Pistons' defensive breakdown and he would finish it off nicely going forehand, backhand shelf on Matthew Radomsky to give Swan a 2 goal lead. The Stampeders would add a late one on the PP with 1:46 to go from Kasyn Kruse to give the visitors a 3-0 advantage after 1 period.

In the 2nd, Swan Valley would add to their lead as Carter Cockburn would send a nice pass down low in front to Matt Osadick who would go in-between his legs for a absolutely beauty flipping it over the shoulder of Radomsky for his 4th of the postseason to push the Stamps' lead to 4-0 after 40 minutes.

The Pistons would would start a little bit of a comeback early on as in the opening minute as Nico Labossiere would get the Pistons on the board then Brendan Martin with a beauty short-side on Merek Pipes just over half way through the 3rd to make it a two goal game at 4-2 but its as close as they would get.

Merek Pipes turned aside 26 of 28 shots to earn the victory for the Stamps' in goal while Matt Radomsky made 35 saves in the losing cause.

Goethals' plays hero as Stamps capture Game 2 in OT over Steinbach in MJHL Semi-Finals

The Swan Valley Stampeders have evened up their MJHL Semi-final series at a game apiece after a 3-2 overtime victory over the Steinbach Pistons in Game 2 on Saturday night.

The Stamps would get off to a quick start as Brad Goethals with slap-shot from the point would beat Matt Radomsky for his 4th of the playoffs to make it 1-0 Swan just 6:53 into the 1st. But the Pistons would respond with a PP goal of their own as Tanner Mole deflected home a Troy Williams' point shot by Merek Pipes to even it up at 1-1 after 1 period.

In the 2nd, the Pistons would get the only goal of the middle frame when the Stamps had a little break down in their defensive and Riley Vautour would plant himself back-door and take a nice feed from Brendan Martin and make no mistake for his 2nd in as many nights to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage after 40 minutes.

Matt Osadick would even it up at 2-2 just 2:22 into the 3rd period as he took a nice feed back-door from Campbell Balk for his 3rd of the playoffs and it would stay like that until the over time period.

In overtime, Swan Valley would get a odd-man rush and Brad Goethals would send it on net looking for a streaking Matt Osadick but instead it would be re-directed in by Pistons D Troy Williams and past his own net minder for the game winner.

Brandt's big night in Game 4 pushes the Terriers to within a win of SJHL Semi-Final round

The Yorkton Terriers have pushed the defending champion Nipawin Hawks to the brink of elimination after winning Game 4 on Wednesday night, 5-2 at the Farrell Agencies Arena.

The Terriers would get off to their best start of the series as just 4:35 in, Mason Mullaney would add his 4th goal in as many games on the PP to get out in front 1-0. Then two goals just 24 seconds just under 4 minutes later Chantz Petruic and Quin Hobbs would give the home-side a 3-0 lead and that would draw a goalie change from the Hawks as Declan Hobbs was pulled after allowing 3 goals on 10 shots. Before the 1st intermission would come the Hawks cut their deficit to just two once again as  Walker Cote would hammer home a rebound off a Jaxsen Wiebe shot and would get it past Ryan Ouellette for his 2nd of the series to make it 3-1 after 1 period.

In the 2nd, the Hawks add some good chances at the beginning of the period but just didn't get the results and it would be Yorkton getting the only marker as Colby Brandt would capitalize on a Hawks' turnover at the Terrier blue-line and he would go in one beat Patrick Pugliese five-hole to make it a 3 goal lead after 40 minutes.

Josh Lester would cut the Hawks within two once again as he would chip it past Ouellette for his 1st SJHL playoff goal but in the end it would Colby Brandt wrapping up a big night icing the game with his 2nd of the night into the empty net to give the Terriers their 3rd straight win.

Terriers goaltender Ryan Ouellette improved his record to 5-2 in the playoffs after making 32 saves on 34 shots. Meanwhile Hawks starter Declan Hobbs was pulled after allowing 3 goals on 10 shots and he was relieved for Patrick Pugilese who was solid stopping 29 of 30 shots.

So the Terriers have a chance to advance to the SJHL's Final Four on Friday night with a victory in Game number 5 from the Cage in Nipawin. GX94 will broadcast the game with Yorkton Dodge Junior Playoff Hockey, "Sask Milk" pregame show is on the air starting at 7:20 with the PXP kicking off at 7:30.

Bruchkowski's 2 goals leads Terriers to Game 3 home ice win over Nipawin

The Yorkton Terriers have won their 2nd straight in the SJHL Quarter-Final series defeating the Nipawin Hawks 3-2 in Game 3 from the Farrell Agencies Arena.

The Hawks like they did in Game 1 would strike first as Jaxsen Wiebe would beat Ryan Ouellette over the far side for his 1st of the playoffs to make it 1-0. But the Terriers would respond just 1:10 later as Colby Brandt's long shot would hit the stick of Cody Bruchkowski and get past Declan Hobbs for the Cochenour, Ontario's 2nd of the playoff to make it even at 1-1 after 20 minutes.

In the 2nd, Nipawin would regain their one goal lead as Jake Tremblay would find a loose puck and slide past Ouellette for his 3rd of the postseason to make it 2-1. But once again the Terriers would come back to even it up as on the PP, Mason Mullaney took a nice feed from Branden Klatt and walked to the high-slot and beat the Hawks netminder for his 3rd to even it up at 2-2 after 2 periods.

The Terriers would get the only marker of the 3rd at the 4:29 mark and it would stand up as the game winner as Colby Brandt made a nice inside-out move around a Hawks defender and would send it on net where Cody Bruchkowski would tap in for his 2nd of the postseason to give the Terriers the home ice victory.

Terriers G Ryan Ouellette turned aside 29 of 31 shots to earn his 4th playoff win while his counterpart in veteran Declan Hobbs made 24 stops in the loss.

The two teams will go right back at it in Game 4 on Wednesday night from the FAA. GX94 will broadcast the game with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey, "Sask Milk" pregame show begins at 7:20 with the PXP starting at 7:30.

Keenleyside's Hat-Trick helps Terriers earn road split after Game 2 victory in Nipawin on Saturday

The Yorkton Terriers captured a wild Game 2 on Saturday defeating the Nipawin Hawks 5-4 to even up their Best of 7 Quarter-Final at 1-1.

The Terriers would get the only goal of the opening frame as Cole Keenleyside (pictured above) would get his 1st of playoffs with 1:36 left in the 1st period to give the visitors the early 1-0 lead.

In the 2nd, the Hawks would explode with 3 goals in first 4:28 off the sticks of Austen Flaman, Jordan Simoneau and Michael Makarenko to give Nipawin a 3-1 lead. But the Terriers would respond with two more quick ones just a short time later both off the stick of Cole Keenleyside who completed his Hat-Trick to make it 3-3 after 40 minutes.

Mason Mullaney would pull the Terriers back in front just 3:17 into the 3rd as his long shot would beat Declan Hobbs to make it 4-3. Then just over 5 minutes Mullaney would add his 2nd of the period as he would take a nice feed in front from Chantz Petruic and make no mistake to make it a two goal lead. The Hawks would try and battle back but they would only be able to get one by Ryan Ouellette from Jake Tremblay as the Terriers hung on for the road win.

March. 15th MJHL/SJHL Local Recap

Stamps' earn sweep over Dauphin; Wolverines' season ends on home ice in Friday's MJHL Playoff Recap

The Swan Valley Stampeders punched their ticket into the MJHL's Semi-Final round on Friday night after a 7-5 victory over the Dauphin Kings to complete the 4 game sweep of their Parkland rivals.

The Stamps would get the early lead in Game 4 as Brad Goethals would hammer one over the right shoulder of Bryan Landsberger for his 3rd of the playoffs, to make it an 1-0 for the visitors just 32 seconds in. But the Kings would respond in a big way in the period as they notched two straight PP goals off the sticks of Cole DeKonick and Eamonn Miller to help Dauphin earn a 2-1 lead after 1 period with shots even at 12-12.

Avery Smith would give the Kings an early two goal lead in the 2nd, but shortly after back to back goals jut 1:58 apart from Tucker Scantlebury and Josh Tripp pulled Swan back even at 3-3. But an answer back marker from Nakodan Greyeyes gave Dauphin a 4-3 advantage after 40 minutes.

In the 3rd, big Alex Uryga (pictured above) would continue his hot play as he would tuck in his 2nd of the playoffs to pull them all event at 4-4. But once again the Kings would grab another one goal lead, this time it was from Carter Sawchuk who went top shelf on Merek Pipes to make it 5-4. The Stamps though would explode 3 unanswered goals including 2 from Kasyn Kruse and a empty netter from Matt Osadick to help them complete the comeback to advance on.

Stamps' G Merek Pipes made 36 saves to improve to 4-0 in the postseason while on the other side, Bryan Landsberger turned aside 43 shots in the loss.

The Stamps' now advance to the MJHL Semi-Finals which will most likely begin next weekend in Swan River, their opponent though is still to be determined.

Elsehwere,

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines had their 2018/19 season come to an end on Friday as they 5-2 on home ice in Game 4 of their Best of 7 Quarter-Final.

20 year olds Jake Bestul and Brandon Lawson scored for the Wolverines in their final games of Junior hockey while Isaac Labelle in his Junior finale turned aside 25 of 30 shots.

Sam Huston had 2 goals to lead the Terriers who'll join the Stamps in the Semi-Final round.

With the Wolverines' season coming to an end, the Junior careers also came to an end for graduates: Isaac Labelle, Brandon Lawson, Greg Lee, Karstin McDonald, and  captain Jake Bestul. I just would like to congratulate them on their Junior careers and wish them the best going forward!

Local players taking part in 2019 University Cup in Lethbridge this week!

The 2019 University Cup (USports Men's Hockey Championships are taking place this Thursday to Sunday at the Enmax Center in Lethbridge, Alberta with some local flavour taking part.

The host Lethbridge Pronghorns will be the host team for the event and the squad features 5th year F and Swan Valley Stampeder alumni Justin Valentino.

"It's obviously a great opportunity to be a part of and it's huge for our University, the athletics program and for our hockey team to participate in a first class event like this", Valentino said in a phone interview with GX94. The Pronghorns will open up their event in the Quarter-Finals tonight (Thurs) against the top-ranked & defending national champion Albert Golden Bears and Valentino knows it'll be a tough test.

"They are the defending champions for a reason, and we had some tough games against this year but we also played them tough at the end of the year taking them to overtime, and in a tournament like this in a single-game elimination anything can happen so we will stick to our structure and see what happens tonight."

Meanwhile the 2nd-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies who feature Hudson Bay's Levi Cable, Grenfell's Donovan Neuls, Moosomin's Dakota Boutin and Yorkton Terrier alum Tanner Lishchynsky, they open up their play this afternoon (Thurs) at 1PM SK time against the Guelph Gryphons

Dakota Odgers (Spy Hill), Moosomin product Rykr Cole and Wayway Wolverines' alumni Troy Martyniuk & the Carleton Ravens will play their Quarter-Final on Friday afternoon at 1PM SK time vs. the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds.
