Millionaires' three game win streak snapped after road defeat in Weyburn on Family Day

 
The Melville Millionaires' had their 5 game point streak snapped after a 5-0 road defeat on Monday afternoon against the Weyburn Red Wings.

The Red Wings got off to a hot start as just 1:14 in as Blake Betson opens the scoring with his 9th of the season to make it 1-0 early on.

Weyburn continued their hot period with two more as Cade Meiklejohn and Jerome Maharaj (PP goal) added to the home teams lead to give them 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.

In the 2nd the Red Wings tacked on more insurance as just 19 seconds into the period, Dallen Oxelgren walked across the Mils blueline and sniped home his 3rd of the season to make it 4-0 before Carter Briltz chipped in with another.

After a scoreless third, the Red Wings held on for their first win of the season over Melville.

Weyburn goaltender Dazza Mitchell made 36 saves to earn his 2nd shutout of the season, while Mils starter William Dyke was relieved early in second period after allowing 4 goals on 21 shots before Ethan Rau made 16 saves on 17 shots in relief.

The Millionaires' return to action on Friday night visiting the Melfort Mustangs, while the Red Wings' next game is on Saturday against Nipawin.

Two Millionaires' rewarded SJHL Player of the Week honours (Feb 12th-18th)




The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is out with its weekly Award winners, and two Melville Millionaires were rewarded.

Millionaire netminder William Dyke (pictured above) was rewarded both the MVP & Goaltender of the Week, while forward Luc Bydal was named SJHL Rookie of the Week.

Dyke won both of his starts this past week including a shutout on Wednesday night vs. Nipawin and had a dazzling 1.59GAA and 0.959 SV%.

Meanwhile Bydal, had 3 goals 2 assists for 5 points in the Moneymen's three wins and now sits 2nd among rookies in scoring in the SJHL.

Other award winners included: Canora's Clay Sleeva (Sask. Player of the Week), Flin Flon's Noah Houle (Defenceman of the Week) and Bomber forward Alexi Sylvestre (Forward of the Week).
