Sept. 16th Local SJHL/MJHL Recap

TERRIERS 3, BRUINS 2

Clay Sleeva scored the game winner with 6:48 left in regulation to lead the Yorkton Terriers to a season-opening, 3-2 win over the Estevan Bruins.

Kaden Bandura (1st SJHL goal) and JD Hall also scored for the Terriers, while Caleb Allen made 42 saves on 44 shots to earn his 1st SJHL victory.

Jeromy Fortin and Evan Forrest replied for the Bruins.

The two teams will play the back-end of the home and home series on Saturday night back in Yorkton at 7:00PM.


RED WINGS 4, MILLIONAIRES 2

Kirk Mullen scored twice while Dazza Mitchell made 30 saves to lead the Weyburn Red Wings to a 4-2 win over the Melville Millionaires.

Ethan Whillans and Riley See also scored for the Wings, while Nicolas Samson and Noah Wills scored for the Moneymen.

Alexis Giroux made 25 saves on 29 shots for the Mils in the losing cause.

The Millionaires will return to action next Friday night visiting the Battlefords North Stars. GX94 will broadcast the game with the pregame show starting at 7:20, and the play by play kicking off at 7:30PM.

WOLVERINES 3, OIL CAPITALS 4 (OT)

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines got a point but fell in their opening game, 4-3 in overtime to the Virden Oil Capitals.

Davis Chorney scored the OT winner just 1:53 into the extra period, while Luke DeCorby, Nicholas Guberman and Andrew Blocker also chipped in offensively for the home-side.

Owen Wheatley, Aiden Ziprick and Jack Clarke scored for the Wolverines, who got 36 stops from Michael Basham in the loss.

The Wolverines and Oil Capitals meet in Waywayseecappo on Saturday night.


BLIZZARD 4, STAMPEDERS 1

Ashton Paul scored twice and added an assist to lead the OCN Blizzard to a 4-1 triumph over the Swan Valley Stampeders at the Centennial Arena.

Drayden Kurbatoff and Keilan Holland scored the others for the Blizzard who got a very solid 26 save performance from Chase Hamm in between the pipes. 

Jakob Jones' 1st MJHL goals was the only offence for the Stampeders, while Kobe Grant made 27 stops in his 1st start of the season.

Swan Valley travels up to OCN for the rematch at the GLMC on Saturday night.
