Cronin provides the heroics as Swan Valley wins wild one over Virden

It was on pace to be a race to 10 goals, but we didn't get that far but close enough as the Swan Valley Stampeders got their 2nd win of the MJHL season with a 7-6 overtime win over the Virden Oil Capitals on Tuesday night from the Centennial Arena in Swan River.

In the first period, it looked like it would be a blowout in favour of the Stamps as they got 3 goals in a span of 8:03 as Riley Welsh (1st MJHL goal), Tristin Mullin (3rd of the season) & Braydon McDonald (3rd of the season) all chipped in with the goals as the Stamps took a commanding 3-0 lead into the 1st intermission. Shots were 17-15 in favour of SV.

But in the 2nd, it was a different as the visiting Oil Caps came out flying in the middle frame outshooting the Stamps in the period and also outscoring them in the frame as they would get goals off the sticks of 19 year old Devin Schram and 18 year old Jake Dudar to cut the Swan lead to only one at 3-2 heading into the 2nd break.

The floodgates for goals would open for both sides in the 3rd period with 8 total goals scored in the period, 4 from the Oil Caps (Taylor Fisher, Tanner Lewis, Ben Williams and Devin Schramm) and 3 Stamps goals including the tying goal from Tristin Mullin, his 2nd of the night with just 2:18 remaining to force the extra period.

In the overtime period, it would be back and forth until Holden Cronin grabbed the puck from his own end and made his way into the attacking zone, went around the Oil Caps net and snuck it five-hole through Cam Pateman's legs for his 1st MJHL goal to give the Stamps the extra point and a 7-6 overtime victory.

Graham Hunt got his 2nd win of the season for SV stopping 36 of 42 shots while Kyler Beckett started for Virden and let in 3 goals on 13 shots before being he was relieved by Cam Pateman who had 24 saves in relief.

The Stamps next action will be a couple games this weekend at the MJHL Showcase in Winnipeg starting Friday afternoon when they take on the undefeated Portage Terriers (4PM MB time) before taking on the Dauphin Kings at 7:00 MB time on Saturday evening. All games of the Showcase are taking place at the MTS Iceplex.

The Wayway Wolverines dropped their 3rd straight a 7-1 decision to the Winnipeg Blues at the Wayway Arena Complex.

Johl Swedlo had the lone goal for the Wolverines while Mitch Wiebe made 34 saves in a losing cause.

Liam Bilton led the way for the Blues with a Hat-Trick.

The Wolverines will also play 2 games at the MJHL Showcase. The first one is on Friday afternoon at 3PM MB time when they take on the Neepawa Natives while on Saturday they battle the Winkler Flyers (1PM MB time)
