Thomas nets the winner as Dauphin beats Swan Valley in Overtime on Opening Night

The Swan Valley Stampeders were able to get a point on opening night, but they would lose the game falling 5-4 in overtime to the Dauphin Kings.

The Stamps got off to a slow start to their opening period of the season, as the Dauphin Kings kind of took it to the Stamps playing most of the period in the Stamps zone, and the Kings would get rewarded for their hard work by netting the first goal as Drake Bodie would slip home a nice feed from Tyler Garrioch past Stamps' goalie Graham Hunt for his 1st goal as a King to give Dauphin a 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.

In the 2nd is where much of the offence came, it would start just 2 minutes in as Stamps would even things up as Brayden McDonald would get the Stamps on the board to make it a 1-1 game. But just 2 minutes later, Riley Thiessen's point shot would get past goalie Graham Hunt to regain the Kings 1 goal lead at 2-1. The Stamps would then explode for the next 3 goals off the sticks of BJ Avery, Tristin Mullin and McDonald with his 2nd to give the visiting Swan Valley 4-2 lead after 2 periods.

The Kings though would not go away as 9:42 into the 3rd they would cut the Stamps lead to 1 as Drake Bodie would get his 2nd of the night to make it a 4-3 game. Then with just 2:38 to go, Matt Kenny would rip one bar down on Hunt on the powerplay for his 1st to make it a 4-4 game after regulation.

In the extra period, the Kings would once again get a powerplay and once again they would make no mistake as Chance Thomas would finish off his 3 point night with a wicked wrister to send the home town fans home happy with a 5-4 Dauphin win.

Riley Corbin wasn't the busy of the goalies but did make 20 saves for his 1st MJHL win, while Graham Hunt was very solid for Swan Valley stopping 35 shots in the loss.

The Stamps next game will be their home opener on Tuesday night when they host the OCN Blizzard at 7:30 MB time from Centennial Arena. (Also Don't forget its Farm Credit Canada Food Drive, so don't forget if your heading to the game to bring a non-perishable food item for the food bank)
