Wolverines snap 6 game slide with gutsy win in Virden

The Wayway Wolverines are finally back in the win column as they snapped their 6 game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Virden Oil Capitals.

The first period would start off with a really good pace to it with both teams going back and forth with some great opportunities, with the Wayway Wolverines having the best of those opportunities but they weren't able to convert in a scoreless opening period.

It didn't the Wolverines long to get on the board in the middle frame as just 29 seconds in, George Spilchal would deflect home his 4th goal of the season past Oil Caps' goalie Sean Keuhn to make it an early 1-0 Wolverine lead. It would stay like that until just over 13 minutes later when Dylan Thiessen would fire home his 5th goal of the campaign to pull things even at 1-1 after 40 minutes.

The back and forth hockey would continue on into the final frame as both teams pressed hard for the equalizer and it would be the Wolverines who would get just that as Robert Briem (pictured above) would hammer home the eventual game winner with just 8 minutes remaining, his 6th of the season to give the Wolverines a 2-1 advantage. Despite some glorious chances and effort, the Oil Caps would come up a little bit short to lead Wayway to their 4th win of the season.

Mitch Wiebe was solid especially late in the 3rd, as he stopped 22 shots for the W, while Sean Keuhn made 21 saves in a losing cause.

The Wolverines will gun for their 2nd straight win on Tuesday when they host the Neepawa Natives on Tuesday night.
