In the 3rd, Callum Fortin just 4:13 into the 3rd cut into their deficit deflecting home his 3rd of the season to make it 4-2.

But that's as close as they would get as Roblin product Brayden Dube sniped one top-corner late to add some insurance for the Kings.

Carson Cherepak made 30 saves on 32 shots in the Kings net to earn his 13th win of the season, while Stamps' G Kobe Grant made 29 stops in the loss.

Terriers; Millionaires both drop road decisions on Tuesday

RED WINGS 4, TERRIERS 3 (SO)

The Yorkton Terriers’ win streak against the Weyburn Red Wings came to an end on Tuesday after 4-3 shootout loss on the road.

The Red Wings got the opening goal just over two minutes into the game as Braden Birnie notched his 5th of the season to give the home side the early lead, that’s before JD Hall replied just over a minute for Terriers to tie it up at 1-1.

In the 2nd, the Terriers grabbed the one goal lead back when Enrique Fontes swatted home his 4th of the season, and 3rd goal against the Wings this season to make it a 3-2 game.

But, Weyburn product Cooper Chisholm got the equalizer a little while later going bar-down on Terriers’ G Kael DePape to make it 4-4.

After a scoreless 3rd and overtime, a shootout would be needed as after exchanging early goals we’d have to wait awhile for the next one which would be the 10th round of the shootout and that’s Graham Skinner snipe one over the right-pad of DePape and then Jackson Fellner stopped Tanner Sklaruk to help Weyburn gain the extra point.

Fellner turned aside 44 of 47 Terrier shots to earn the win, while DePape made 20 saves in the shootout loss.

Moosomin Generals capture first ever Prairie Girls Football League title

It was typical cool playoff weather on Sunday in Moosomin as the hometown Generals hosted the Yorkton Lady Gridders in the first ever title game of the Prairie Girls Football League.

The Generals were able to use home-field as an advantage as they held on for a 26-18 win over the Lady Gridders to capture the league title, in the league's first year of existence.

" We are pumped, it was a great game as we managed to get up early, but Yorkton's a great team and we were able to hold own defensively and fight through the emotions and pull out the win", said Generals Coach Jason Schenn.

The PGFL, which also includes teams in Melville, Estevan and Regina was formed to provide Grade 7-12 females the chance to play and develop their skills in the game of tackle football in a structured league.

Meanwhile in the 3rd place game of the PGFL that also took place on Sunday, it was the Regina Victoria's beating the Melville Vipers 26-0.

Schenn adds he's ecstatic just how much that female tackle football has grown in the province.

"Only just a few short years ago we had only a handful of girls that were playing tackle football in the province and now, with five girls teams now in the province and, and probably about 130 girls playing Grade 7-12 football, it's phenomenal to see you."

The first ever National U18 Female Championship will take place on July 24th to Aug. 1st, 2022 in Regina.

In the 2nd period, the Bruins opened the flood-gates with 3 goals in the first 2:43 of the period from Kian Calder, Olivier Pouliot and Alex Von Sprecken to extend their lead to 4-0.

The Mils would get on the board just a few minutes later as Rylan Bruns beat Cam Hrdlicka over the right shoulder for his 2nd of the season to reduce the Mills deficit to just 4-1.

Prairie Girls Football League Final slated for this Sunday in Moosomin

The inaugural champion of the Prairie Girls Football League will be crowned this Sunday in Moosomin when the hometown Generals host the Yorkton Lady Gridders in the league's first ever championship game.

The Generals advanced on after a 25-6 semi-final win over the Melville Vipers, while the Lady Gridders advanced to the final after a 20-12 win over the Regina Victoria's in last Sunday's Semi-Final.

"It was a back and forth game, with each team having leads at different points in the game, but we were able to dig deep late and come out on top," Lady Gridder Head Coach Tyrel McLean said.

This is the first year of existence for the PGFL which includes teams in Melville, Yorkton, Regina, Moosomin and Estevan, and McLean said to win the first ever title would be special.

"The girls are excited, Moosomin's a good team, they play a power run game which we are preparing for and if we play like we can and handle the weather conditions well, we should come out on top."

Kick-off from Moosomin on Sunday will be at 1PM.

The Melville Vipers and Regina Victoria's will also play on Halloween Sunday at 12 Noon in a third place game.

Sacred Heart Saints Boys’ Soccer Team to Host 4A SHSAA Provincials this weekend

The Sacred Heart Saints Boys Soccer Team is preparing to host the Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association 4 A Soccer championships Friday October 29th and Saturday October 30th.

The tournament will pit the top four teams in the 4 A category in the province vying for the gold medal prize.

This years competition has Moose Jaw Central, North Battleford John Paul II, Martensville, and Sacred Heart.

Sacred Heart has had success in this competition having won 5 championships as well as two silver medals and a bronze medal finish over the past two decades. This years Saints team has competed in the Moose Jaw High School Soccer league competing mostly against 5 A High School teams.

The Saints went 2 wins and 5 losses in the season and have learned some valuable lessons that should help in the provincial playoffs. The team consists of many new players mixed in with some key veterans.

Most of the team has developed their skills in the Yorkton United Soccer program as well as the Soccer Academy course at Sacred Heart. Growing together as a team and building chemistry has been a large focus this season. The pandemic has had an impact on high school sports as students have not had the opportunity to compete for the last year and a half. Some student athletes have drifted away from school sports in favor of working at various businesses in the area.

Having a year away from school soccer has resulted in the challenge of attracting back athletes, learning the tendencies of the teammates and working together as a team. The Saints look forward to the competition that awaits them over the next week. Having the opportunity to play teams out of Moose Jaw, Regina and the North is exciting for the Saints.

Building during the season to peak at this time is not an exact science but is the ultimate goal of the team.

Coaches Robert Okeny and Emily Kruger have been pushing the boys to do exactly that.

Ultimately, this season has been a win-win for all involved. It has been great having the opportunity to get out on the field and play again. Playing for a provincial championship is the cherry on top.

The Saints invite the community to come out and watch some exciting soccer on October 29th and 30th. Admission to the games is 7 dollars for adults and 5 dollars for grade 7 to 12 students.

Games will be at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM both days and will be played at the Sacred Heart soccer fields located behind Sacred Heart High School.
