The Yorkton Terriers had their 5 game win streak snapped but did continue their point streak to 8 games as they lost 3-2 in the shootout to the Weyburn Red Wings on Friday from Crescent Point Place.
It definitely wasn't the start the Terriers were looking for as just 14 seconds into period number 1, a sloppy play in the defensive zone would allow Josh Lees, the Red Wings captain to jump on a loose puck and rip it over the right shoulder of goalie Riley Medves to give the Wings a early 1-0 lead in the opening minute. The Wings would control most of the 1st period and they would add another one as Matt Eng went wide and jammed his way towards the slot and got a shot away on net but the rebound would come right back to him and he would put it past Medves for his 1st to give the Wings a 2-0 lead after 1 period.
In the 2nd period, it would be the Terriers best period of the night and they would be able to get one past Rylan Parenteau as Dylan Johnson would jump on a loose puck in the slot for his 4th goal of the season and it came on the power play to cut the Wings to 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.
Daylan Gatzke would begin the 3rd period off on the right foot as he would drive wide on the Wings dman and then would go forehand, backhand past Parenteau to even the game up at 2-2. Minutes later, the Terriers thought they got their first lead as Josh Ellis was wide open in the slot for the one time but somehow Parenteau came across and made an unbelievable save with the right pad to keep it deadlocked at 2-2 after regulation. Overtime would solve nothing and we would be headed to the shootout.
In the shootout, the first 7 shooters together from both sides would miss and the only to score would be the Wings' Jon Brumwell and that would stand as the game winner to give the Wings a 3-2 shootout win.
Rylan Parenteau stopped 31 shots for the win while Riley Medves stopped 28 in a losing cause.
The Terriers will go right back at it on Saturday hosting the Melfort Mustangs at 7:30 FAA.

Terriers win 5th straight 1-0 over Estevan
The Yorkton Terriers got their 5th straight win and got points in their 7th straight game as they shutout the Estevan Bruins on Tuesday night 1-0.
In the 1st period it was a great start for the Terriers as they definitely had more of the jump and they were rewarded for their efforts as Cortlan Procter would take a nice feed from Matt Cox and rifle it past Matt Gibney for his 2nd goal of the season to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead, and they also led in the shot column 8-4 after 20 minutes.
The middle frame was also a very tight checking affair with the physical play picking up as the period went on and both teams got their own powerplays but neither of them could convert on them as it would remain 1-0 after 40 minutes of play.
The middle frame was also a very tight checking affair with the physical play picking up as the period went on and both teams got their own powerplays but neither of them could convert on them as it would remain 1-0 after 40 minutes of play.
In the 3rd period the play would pick up more towards the favor of the Estevan Bruins as they would get 3 power plays in the final frame including a short 16 second 5 on 3 that they couldn't convert on. But what a great job of penalty killing for the Terriers, starting from key faceoff wins to very timely, and solid saves to keep it at 1-0 and that's where we would end with a 1-0 Terrier victory.
Kale Thomson stopped 22 shots for his 2nd shutout of the season while Matt Gibney stopped 14 of 15 in a losing cause.
The Terriers will look to make it 6 in a row when they visit the Weyburn Red Wings on Friday night, pregame gets going at 7:20 from Crescent Point Place in Weyburn.

McMullen plays hero as the Terriers shade pas the Mils in Overtime
The Yorkton Terriers now have a 3 point lead in Viterra division standings over the Melville Millionaires as they defeated the Mils in overtime 3-2 on Friday night at the FAA.
It was a start that the Mils wanted in period 1 as they got the first goal just 2:05 into the opening frame as Chris Stovall would bang home a loose puck for his 3rd of the season to make it a early 1-0 lead. The Mils would control much of the first half of the period before the Terriers would take over in the 2nd half, but it would be Mils' goalie Isaiah Plett keeping his team in it as the Terriers couldn't convert as they out shot the Mils 15-7 after 1 period of play.
The middle frame would be much more even as the play would go back and forth for much of the period until 1:57 left in the period when Dylan Johnson would jump on a loose puck and put into the empty net past a sprawled out Isaiah Plett for his 3rd of the season, and it was also the goal sent the Teddy Bears onto the ice with 3rd annual Terriers Teddy Bear Toss with all the teddy bears being donated to the Salvation Army's Christmas Cheer Program. All in all it would stay even at 1 after 40 minutes.
In the 3rd, after a couple of near chances the Terriers would grab their first lead of the night as John Odgers would sneak one through the five-hole of Plett for his 2nd of the season to make it 2-1 Terriers. Then with 3:10 to go in regulation, the stick of Chase Norrish would come up and clip Kelvin Walz and it would draw blood so Norrish would be off for 4 minutes, and 2:09 into the double minor Tyson Predinchuk would even it up for the Mils with his 8th to force overtime tied at 2-2.
Then in OT with the Terriers having much of the control, would get the winner as Devon McMullen (pictured above) would jump on the loose puck in the slot for the winner to give the Terriers a 3-2 OT win.
Kale Thomson stopped 25 shots for the win while Isaiah Plett stopped 34 of 37 shots in a losing cause.
The 2nd half of the home/home will go right on Saturday night at the HCUC, 7:30 Faceoff.

Terriers dominate Ice Wolves to grap 1st in Viterra.
The Yorkton Terriers played their 2nd straight solid home game and moved into 1st place in the Viterra division over the idle Melville Millionaires, as they hammered the La Ronge Ice Wolves 6-2 on Wednesday night.
One of the main reason for the success on this night, was a very solid 1st period and they would be credited for their efforts with 2 markers, one by Daylan Gatzke, his 3rd goal in 3 games and also Zack Zadarozniak (pictured above) who notched his 3rd goal of the season to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead after the 1st, outshooting the Ice Wolves 14-4 in the process.
The 2nd period would start much like the 1st, as the Terriers would increase their lead to 3-0 as the red hot Dalton Menke would capitalize on a loose puck for his 4th goal of the season. The 2nd half of the 2nd period, the Ice Wolves would come on with some late pressure, but Riley Medves who would be get his 4th start of the season would stand tall and deny any pucks from making their way to the back of the net.
In the last frame, it would be the Terriers powerplay going to work as Jordan Ross would convert on his 8th of the season to push the Terriers lead to 4-0. But La Ronge would show some life as they would get their own powerplay goal as the long point shot from Eric Macoretta would find its way past Medves to cut the Terriers lead to 4-1. Tayler Thompson would come right back on the powerplay as his long wrist shot would make its way over the left pad of Tyler Fuhr to give the Terriers a 5-1. Then for good measure and to cap off a very good night for him,Zack Zadarozniak would bang home his 2nd of the night and 4th of the season to give the Terriers a 5 goal, 6-1 lead. The Ice Wolves would get the last marker of the game on the powerplay as Landon Robin would deflect home a Brett Hope shot from the point, but it wasn't enough as it would be a 6-2 Terrier final.
Riley Medves was very solid between the pipes stopping 27 of 29 shots for his 3rd win of the season while Tyler Fuhr stopped 29 shots in a losing cause. Both teams' powerplays were 2 for 4 on the evening.
The Terriers will host the 1st game of the home and home Highway 10 battle on Friday night, 7:30 Puck Drop from the FAA. Pregame show will get going on GX94 at 7:20 with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey. Melville will host the Terriers on Saturday at the HCUC.

Mils lose to Estevan on Tuesday
The Melville Millionaires lost for the first time in regulation since Oct 15th as they fell last night 4-2 the Estevan Bruins.
The Mils started off like any road would love to do and that's with a quick goal as they would get an early power play and Kelvin Walz would deflect in a Adam Dibella point shot for his 7th to give Them an early 1-0 lead. It would stay like that until just under 5 minutes into the 1st as then Austin Daae would go top shelf on Richard Palmer to tie it at 1 and that's what it would sit as after 1 period.!
Then the 2nd would go back and forth until mid way through the 2nd as the Bruins would get their own deflection goal and it would be Connor McKenzie get a stick on the puck to give the Bruins their first lead at 2-1. But a short time later, the Mils would make it a tie game once again as there was mad scramble in front of the Bruins net and Ashton Clark would whack it in for his 1st SJHL goal to make it 2-2 after 40 minutes.
In the 3rd period, Estevan would get a man advantage for the 1st time and tent would captialize just 6 seconds in as Daae would bang home his second of the night to make 3-2 Estevan. The Mils would have their chances including a couple posts off the sticks of Eric Meyer and Colin Mospanchuk but couldn't get anything past Matt Gibney. The Bruins would add an insurance marker as Dase would finish off a one time for his hat trick goal to make it a 4-2 Bruins final.
Gibney stopped 31 shots for the win while Richard Palmer stopped 34 shots in a losing cause.
The Mils return to action on Friday for the first game of a home and home in Yorkton, a game you can hear on GX94 with pregame starting at 7:20 from yeah FAA.

The Yorkton Terriers got a point and pulled into a 1st place tie in the Viterra Division with the Melville Millionaires but they fell 3-2 in the shootout to the visiting Weyburn Red Wings on Friday night at the FAA.
The first period would begin a little bit sloppy for both sides, but as the opening frame went on the Terriers began to take control and it showed that in the shot column as they outshot the Red Wings 13-5 in a scoreless opening frame.
In the 2nd periond, it was more of the same for the Yorkton Terriers and they were finally credited with their efforts as it would be Kailum Gervais jumping on a loose puck and putting it past Rylan Parenteau for his 4th of the season to give the Terriers a 1 goal lead. It would stay like that until 2:32 remaining in the 2nd period as Shain Scheschuk, while on a 2 on 1 would decide to shoot and he would go top shelf over the glove of Kale Thomson to even it at 1, and thats where we would sit after 40 minutes of play.
In the 3rd, it would be the most even period of them all, and the game would stay even until 8:41 in when Daylan Gatzke would use good speed to get around the Red Wings' dman and would go forehand, backhand and slip it by a sprawled out Parenteau for his 1st goal of the season to give the Terriers once again a 1 goal lead at 2-1. It would stay like that until Nathan Morris' point would be deflected in by Brian Farkas in front with 8:45 remaining to even the game at 2-2. In the final 8 minutes, there would be chances both sides, with Weyburn hitting a few points, and both teams had their chances to win it on breakaways, but solid play by both goaltenders would force overtime which solved nothing.
In the shootout, it would be Ty McLean getting the lone goal as he went five-hole on Kale Thomson, and Thomson thought he had it until the last second when it sneaked through for the shootout winner.

Knox outlast Thunder in Wolseley
The Fort Knox improved their record to 8-4-1 on the season and won their 3rd game in a row a 5-3 victory over the Ochapowace Thunder at the Wolseley Sportsplex.

Stamps win a wild one in Dauphin
The Swan Valley Stampeders moved into sole possession of 2nd place in the Sherwood division with a 8-7 win over the Dauphin Kings on Tuesday night.
Max Provencher and Mitch a Deacon got the scoring affair going early in the 1st to give the Stamps an early 2-0 lead. But a short time later Jesse Bernard would get the Kings on the board to make it 2-1 SV. Just 32 seconds later though Max Flanagan would get his 15th goal of the season to regain the Stamps two goal lead before Carter Johnson made it 4-1 Stamps with his 8th of the season. Once again though Dauphin would come back and cut the Stamps lead in half with Tanner Lomsnes getting his 1st of 3 on the night to make it 4-2. But the Stamps would come again and this time it was Nic Erb getting his 10th of the season. Finally With just over a second remaining in the 1st, Francis Alarie would cut the Stamps lead to 2 goals once again to make it a 5-3 Swan lead after 1 period.
In the 2nd it would start like the 1st with the Stamps getting on the board this time it would be Daylan Creasy finishing off a nice passing play from Justin Valentino to give them a 3 goal 6-3 lead. But the Kings would not go down without a fight as they would storm back 3 goals late in the 2nd, 2 by Lomsnes to complete the hat trick, while a Dalton Siwak got the other. Justin Valentino though would get Swan the lead once again as he would put home his 3rd of the season to make 7-6 Swan after 40 minutes of play.
In the 3rd, it would be a period controlled by the Kings as they would out shoot the Stamps 16-3, but both teams would come away with a goal, as Max Flanagan would get his 2nd of the night and 16th of the season to make it 8-6, in the final minute Mitch Van Teeling would would get one more back for the Kings but that's as close as they would as it was a 8-7 Swan Valley final.
Nathan Armstrong got the start and stopped 33 shots for the victory while both goalies saw time for the Kings, Brian Archibald got the start and stopped 10 of 15 shots and only lasted one period. Jeremy Pominville only let in 3 goals on 11 shots the rest of the way.
