Falloon plays hero as Terriers clinch Semi-Final berth with win over the Kings

The Yorkton Terriers faced elimination twice in the RBC Cup and both times the Terriers prevailed, which included a big 2-1 OT win over the Dauphin Kings to clinch a berth into Saturday's semi-finals

It would be a little bit of slower start to the 1st period for both sides until we got about half way through the first frame as Terriers' forward Matt Cox would have a couple opportunities but couldn't beat Kings' netminder Michael Stilliadis who was very solid in that 1st period. The Terriers would also get penalized a couple times in the 1st period but the penalty kill that has been getting better as the tournament was very solid in a scoreless opening frame where Dauphin led in the shot column at 11-9.

A Kings powerplay would carry over into the start of the 2nd period and just 46 seconds in, Dauphin would capitalize as Brent Wold would deflect home his 3rd of the RBC Cup to give the Kings a 1-0 lead. The Terriers would get a total of 3 powerplays as the middle frame continued and would have some glorious opportunities as Chase Norrish was creeping in back door and was robbed in front and then Tyson Enzie was fed right in the slot area for the one-timer and his shot went off the post and out to keep it at a 1-0 advantage for the Kings after 2 periods of play.

In the 3rd period, the Terriers would really come on looking for that equalizer and for the opening 5 minutes but he couldn't get it. Then Dillion McCombie went in alone with Kale Thomson just after a flurry of Terrier chances but Thomson made a unbelievable save. Then at the 8:10 mark of the 3rd, Tyler Giebel would send a no look back hand through some traffic that Stilliadis didn't see as it would go five-hole on the Kings' netminder for his 1st of the tournament to tie it up a 1-1. The teams would once again exchange chances in the late stages of the 3rd period, but both teams would come up empty in the process sending the game into sudden death OT.

In the extra period, Turner Ottenbreit would send a puck deep where Brett Boehm would take over behind the net and dish it out in front where Derek Falloon (pictured above) would jam it throught the Kings netminder for his 1st goal of the RBC Cup to give the Terriers a 2-1 OT victory.

Kale Thomson put together his 2nd very good start in a row as he stopped 35 shots for his 2nd straight W while Michael Stilliadis turned aside 31 Terrier shots in a losing cause.

The Yorkton Terriers will take on the Vernon Vipers on Saturday afternoon in the first Semi-Final, 2:45/3:00 SK time on GX94 while Dauphin Kings will battle the Carleton Place Canadians at 7:00 SK time in the late Semi-Final.
