Terriers reach 2nd ever National Final with Semi-Final win over Vernon

The Yorkton Terriers for the 2nd time in 8 years will play for a national title as they advanced to tomorrow's (Sun) RBC title game with a 6-3 win over the host Vernon Vipers on Sautrday afternoon.

This semi-final matchup would start off with very good pace, with both teams having some good opportunities and early powerplays to try and get that elusive first goal. That team to get that first goal would be the Terriers as on their 2nd powerplay, Tanner Lischynsky would take a nice feed in front and go top shelf on Austin Smith for his 2nd of tournament to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead. The Terriers wouldn't take long to take a 2 goal lead as just 46 seconds later Daylan Gatzke would snap home his 1st of the RBC Cup to give the Terrier a 2 goal advantage. But before the opening frame would end, the Vipers would add a powerplay goal of their own as Brett Mulcahy would deflect home a point shot from Jared Wilson past Kale Thomson for his 3rd to cut the Terriers lead to just 2-1 Terriers after 20 minutes of play.

The Vipers wouldn't take long in the 2nd period to get the equalizer as Michael McNicholas would sneak backdoor and take a nice cross ice feed from Dexter Dancs to jam home his 2nd goal of the tourney to pull it to a 2-2 tie. The Terriers though wouldn't back down and they would come right back and regain their 2 goal lead with a couple markers off the sticks of Dylan Johnson and Chase Norrish to make it a 4-2 Yorkton lead. But just like the 1st, the Vipers would cut their deficit to just one before the 2nd period buzzer would go as Dexter Dancs would jam home his 2nd of the the tourney to make it a 4-3 Terrier lead through 2 periods.

In the 3rd in desperation playing for their season would come out firing on Kale Thomson but in the end they would come up a little bit short in their efforts. The Terriers would add two more into the empty net by Tayler Thompson and Daylan Gatzke to give the Terriers a 6-3 Semi-Final win.

Kale Thomson made 34 saves for his 3rd straight win while Austin Smith made 4 saves on 8 shots before he was yanked and relieved by Danny Todosychuk who made all 22 saves in his performance.

The Terriers will now meet the Carleton Place Canadians In tomorrow's Title game after the East reps beat the Dauphin Kings 5-3 in the other semi final. Pregame at 515, pxp at 5:30 SK time with Yorkton Dodge Junior Playoff Hockey on GX94.
