RBC Cup Day 1 Recap

Jesse Bernard’s goal with just 1:37 remaining snapped a 1-1 tie, and the Kings scored twice in the last 12 minutes to knock off the Patriots 2-1 and score the first victory of the 2014 RBC Cup.

Tanner Butler got the other marker for the Kings while Jacob Hayhurst got the lone goal for the Patriots.

Michael Stilliadis was outstanding in the Kings goal and stopped 41 of 42 shots while Evan Buitenhuis made 27 saves in a losing cause.

The Patriots will battle the Yorkton Terriers in the afternoon game on Sunday, 2:45/3:00 SK time on GX94 with Yorkton Dodge Junior Playoff hockey while Kings will take on the Carleton Place Canadians in the night cap at 8:00pm SK time.

In the late game,

Dylan Gareau, Adam Lloyd and Vinny Post all scored in the third period, and Luke Edwards added two assists to help the Carleton Place Canadians to a win in their RBC Cup debut, beating the host Vernon Vipers.

Colton Sparrow and Demico Hannoun got the goals for the Vipers and both came shorthanded.

Guillaume Therien made 25 saves for the win in goal for the Canadians while Vipers netminder stopped 26 shots in the loss.

The Vipers will have Sunday off, before taking on the Yorkton Terriers
