The Yorkton Terriers will live to see another day at the 2014 RBC Cup in Vernon, BC as they got their first victory of the championship with a 3-1 win over the Carleton Place Canadians.
The Terriers started off with a very solid start to the opening frame, as they would have some glorious chances with a couple coming off the stick of Brady Norrish but the Terriers weren't able to break through and get any past Canadians netminder Guillaume Therien who stopped all 16 shots he faced in the opening period. Carleton Place were able to get the early advantage though as with a man short the Canadians would go in shorthanded and Stephen Baylis would slide it across to Anthony McVeigh who went top shelf on Kale Thomson for his 1st of the RBC Cup to give the East Reps a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes of play.
In the 2nd period, the Terriers would continue with their solid play and they would rewarded for their efforts as Brett Boehm would get a nice backhand feed from Riley Hunt to put home his 2nd of the RBC Cup to even it up at 1-1. Yorkton would get their first lead of the night at the 13:50 mark of the middle frame as Tayler Thompson would find a loose puck and flip it over top of Therien for his 2nd goal of the tournament to give the Terriers a 2-1 lead after 2 periods.
It would be hold on mode for the Terriers in period 3 as they played their best period of defensive hockey in the tournament and then they would get that insurance marker as Chase Norrish would rifle home a one-timer bar down for his 1st goal of the RBC Cup, to push the Terriers to a 3-1 victory over the Carleton Place Canadians to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Kale Thomson (pictured above) rebounded and put together a very good start for the Terriers make 25 saves on 26 shots for his 1st win of the tourney while Guillaume Therrien was solid in a losing cause stopping 34 Terrier shots.
The Terriers will be in must win territory once again as they wrap up their round robin tomorrow afternoon (Thurs) against the 3-0 Dauphin Kings, 2:45/3:00 SK time on GX94 with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey on GX94. The Canadians finish round robin with a 2-2 record and will now wait to see their seeding for this weekend's playoffs.
