Stampeders fall short in date with the Top Dogs

The Swan Valley Stampeders started off toe-to-toe with CJHL's Top ranked team but simply ran out of a gas, coming off a 4-3 SO win last night, they dropped a 6-1 decision on Sunday to the Portage Terriers.

The Terriers would strike first just 6:57 into the opening period, when Andrew Zerban wuld cause a turnover at the Stamps blueline and slip it to Jordan Boyd who would go top shelf for his 27th goal of the season to give Portage a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Shawn Bowles would give the Terrier a 2-0 lead just 1:59 into the middle frame on the PP as he knocked home his 25th. But just 1:22 later, the Stamps would get on the board when Tristan Mullin would pick up some loose garbage in front of goaltender Justin Laforest for his team leading 20th goal of the season to make it 2-1 game. That 1 goal deficit wouldn't last long as veteran Zack Waldvogel would get a power play goal of his own, his 27th to give the Terriers a 2 goal after 2 periods.

The Stamps would have chances, a couple on the PP to try and cut into the Terrier lead, but they just didn't have gas left to get it done, as the Terriers would add 3 more in the 3rd off the sticks of Boyd, Carson Perraux, and Brett Orr to give the MJHL's top team their 50th win of the season a 6-1 victory on home ice.

Justin Laforest earned his 29th win of the seaosn in net for Portage turning aside just 17 shots while Graham Hunt made 35 saves for the loss.

The Stamps, even with the loss remain 2 point ahead of the Selkirk Steelers for 6th in the MJHL standings and Swan will return to action on Tuesday night when they host the OCN Blizzard. GX94's coverage begins with the pregame at 7:20, pxp at 7:30.
