Terriers drop 5th straight, 6-3 to Estevan; Stamps win in OCN

The Yorkton Terriers dropped their 5th straight decision on Tuesday night, losing 6-3 on home ice to the Estevan Bruins.

The Terriers returning back to home ice came out a little bit flat as the Bruins took it to the Terriers early on as they quickly got out to a 9-2 lead in the shot column. The Bruins would be able to be the first team to break through as they would capitalize on a Terrier turnover and Levi Barnstable would bang one past goaltender Matt Kustra for his 2nd of the season to give the visitors a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

In the middle frame, the Terriers would have to go shorthanded early on for a full 4 minutes after Lyndon Pastachak was high sticked, both refs missed the call but after a conference with all the officials about 30 seconds later they give Carson Cayer a double minor for high sticking. Fortunate enough for the Terriers they were able to kill it off,  but unfortunately they weren't able to build on that momentum as the Bruins would add to their lead as Wyatt Garagan would capitalize on a turnover by Terrier netminder Matt Kustra and slip home his 8th of the year to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead after 2 periods.

Lyndon Pastachak would increase his teams lead to a 3 goal advantage when when he got his 4th goal of the season to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead. The Terriers would get on the board a short time after that as Cortlan Procter would take a nice feed from Brandon Sookro in front and squeak home his 3rd, to make it a 3-1 game. (AP forward Branden Klatt got his 1st SJHL point with an assist on Procter's marker.)  Then at the 12:20 mark of the final frame, the Bruins would regain that 3 goal lead as they would get the 8th goal of the season from Kurt Sonne on the powerplay to make it a 4-1 Bruin lead. But the Terriers once again wouldn't back down as 20 year old Josh Ellis would hammer home a PP goal of his own to cut the Terrier deficit to 4-2. But the visitors would be at it again as former Yorkton AAA Harvest star Pastachak would squeeze through the Terrier D and get his 13th goal of the season to make it 5-2. But Corwin Stevely, with just over a minute to go would give his team a little life with the goalie and make it a 5-3 game with his 5th of the year. But Pastachak would ice it with his hat trick goal to make it a 6-3 Estevan Bruin victory.

Tyler Fuhr made 43 saves for the win in the Bruins' net while Mat Kustra made 30 saves in the losing cause.

The Terriers will play a couple games this weekend on Friday visiting the Melfort Mustangs before hosting the Kindersley Klippers on Saturday night.
