Terriers lose 3rd straight as Mustangs clinch 1st with a 5-0 win in Yorkton



The Yorkton Terriers lost their 3rd straight game and allowed the Melfort Mustangs to clinch top seed in the SJHL for the first time in team history as they defeated the Terriers on Wednesday night 5-0 at the FAA.

The league leading Mustangs wouldn't take long to get on the board as right off the draw as Andrew Durham would sneak one through Matt Kustra for his 12th of the year to make it an early 1-0 lead. The Mustangs would then add a PP goal late as David Heath would pinch in from the right point and put it five hole for his 8th to give Melfort a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The league leading Lefort would keep on coming
with offence in the 2nd period as they would add two more off the sticks of Landon Robin and Regan Wilton to make it a 4-0 Mustangs after 2 periods. The Terriers would have a few close calls in the middle frames on their 4 powerplays they got in the 2nd, but they weren't able to capitalize.

The SJHL's leading scorer Travis Mayan would add one more for the Mustangs in the 3rd as he would bang home his 37th goal of the season to give the Mustangs win number 38 on the season a 5-0 win over Yorkton.

Former Millionaire Richard Palmer would turn aside 19 shots in net for his 5th shutout of the season while Matt Kustra made 34 saves in a losing cause.

The Terriers will have their awards banquet on Thursday at the Gallagher Center with tickets still available at the Terrier office in the afternoon tomorrow for $25, or by calling 306-783-4077. Cocktails go at 5:30 with the supper to follow at 6:30.

The Terriers will then put a cap on the 2014/15 season on Friday night when they host the Humboldt Broncos at 7:30 from the FAA.
