Terriers win 2nd straight, 6-4 over rival Millionaires

The Yorkton Terriers won back to back games for the first time since early December as they held to defeat the visiting Melville Millionaires 6-4 on Friday night at the Farrell Agencies.

The Terriers would open the scoring just 1:03 into the opening period as Josh Ellis (pictured above) would cut off a Mils cross ice pass and put it top shelf on Trevor Martin for his 5th goal of the season to make it an early 1-0 Terrier lead. Reed Murray would even things up just 1:28 later as he got his 11th to tie things up a 1-1. Then it turned into the Logan Karakochuk show as he would net his 1st 2 SJHL goals from basically the same place on the ice, the left point and both would go top shelf on Matt Kustra to give the Moneymen a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.

That lead wouldn't last long as Paul Savage's long shot from the point would find its way to the back of the net for his 2nd in as many games to cut the Mils lead to just 3-2 (Tyler Baier got first SJHL point with an assist on the goal). At the mid way point of the middle frame, Carson Cayer would chip home his 5th goal of the season to get it even at 3-3. Before the 2nd buzzer could go off, the Terriers would add their 3rd of the 2nd period, as captain Kailum Gervais would finish off a nice passing play with Brandon Sookro to get his 10th of the season to give the Terriers a 4-3 after 40 minutes.

Mark Zvonkovic would pull the Mils even at 4-4 when his long point shot would get through for his 2nd as a Millionaire. The Terriers would get the game winner at the 7:10 mark of the 3rd period, when Terrier forward Adam Santoro would drive hard to the net and deflect home his 5th of the SJHL season to give them a 5-4 lead, before Josh Ellis would add the empty netter late in the final minute to give the Terriers their 16th win of the season a 6-4 win over Millionaires.

Matt Kustra made 38 saves for the victory in the Terrier crease while Trevor Martin stopped 25 of 30 shots in the loss.

The two teams will meet for the 8th and final time of the SJHL regular season on Saturday night when they battle at the Horizon Credit Union Center at 7:30.
