Terriers capture WCC Title; Advance to RBC Cup in Vernon BC

The Yorkton Terriers for the first time since 2006 and for the 5th time in team history will be participate in the RBC Cup as they defeated the Dauphin Kings 5-4 on Saturday night to win the 2nd edition of the Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup.

In a dream final for organizers, the Terriers got off to a good start when Brett Boehm would take a beautiful feed from Devon McMullen back door and put home his 6th goal of the tournament to give Yorkton a early 1-0 lead. The Kings would even things up though at the 13:32 mark when Dylan Butler took a nice feed in the slot and put home his 1st of the tournament to tie it up at 1-1. But Boehm would strike again as he would take a nice tape to tape feed from Tyler Giebel and would go in alone with Jordan Piccolino and slip it five hole on the Kings' goalie for his 2nd of the night and 7th of the tournament to give the SJHL champs a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

In the 2nd period, the Kings would even things as just as the Terriers penalty would expire Tanner Butler's point shot would get through and past Kale Thomson for his 4th of the WCC to tie things at 2-2 after 2 periods of play.

There wouldn't be much for offence to start period number 3 until the 13:42 mark of the 3rd, as Tayler Thompson would score a beauty top shelf for his 3rd goal of the tournament to give the Terriers a 3-2 lead. The Kings would once again get the equalizer would deflect home his 6th of the WCC, to tie it back up at 3-3. Then it would turn into the Brett Boehm show once again as he would score 2 more goals, his 3rd and 4th of the night, to give the Terriers a 5-3 lead late. Brayden Cuthbert would add one late for the Kings, but it wasn't enough as the Terriers beat the Dauphin Kings 5-4 to win the Western Canada Cup title.

Kale Thomson stopped 23 shots for the win in the Terriers' goal while Jordan Piccolino stopped 22 in a losing cause.
