Terriers; Mils both win. Stamps lose on Tuesday Night Jr.A Recap

The Swan Valley Stampeders losing streak dropped to 3 games, as they dropped a 4-2 game on Tuesday night to the Dauphin Kings in MJHL action.

In the first it would be the home team the Kings getting the only goal on a nice individual effort by Keaton Leininger as he would walk around a couple of Stampeders and then snap it by goaltender Brett Evans for his 10th of the season to give the Kings a 1-0 lead after 1 period. Shots 15-12 Dauphin.

There would be some good chances from both sides in the 2nd, but once again it would be the Kings getting the only goal as Leininger would add his 2nd of the night, this time on the PP for his 11th to give his team 2 goal lead, at 2-0 after 40 minutes.

Tyler Garrioch would increase their lead as he would capitalize on a Stamps turnover shorthanded and beat Evans to make it a 3-0 game. But Michael Fortin would take a nice feed from Colton Brausen on a 2 on 1, and direct it by Brandon Holtby for his 9th of the season to cut Swan within 2 at 3-1. But once again it would be Leininger completing his Hat Trick and his 12th of the season to make it 4-1 Kings. The Stamps would get one more but thats as close as they would get as Fortin would add his 2nd of the game but it would end up a 4-2 Kings victory.

Brandon Holtby made 32 saves in the win for the Kings while Grandview MB product Brett Evans made 27 saves in the losing cause.

The Stamps continue their road stretch on Friday night when they visit the Winkler Flyers at 7:30.

Mils win 2nd straight over Kindersley

The Melville Millionaires won in thrilling fashion on Friday night as they won their 2nd straight, 3-2 in the shootout over the Kindersley Klippers

Terriers drop 2nd straight, 3-2 in Melfort on Wednesday

The Yorkton Terriers got only 1 out of a possible 4 points on their 2 game road as they lost on Wednesday night, 3-2 to the Melfort Mustangs at the Northern Lights Palace.

After a scoreless 1st period, just 9:10 into the middle frame Mustang forward Rylan Freed would get a clear-cut breakaway and go five-hole on Matt Kustra for his 4th of the season to give his team an early 1-0 lead. But just a short time later Adam Santoro would capitalize on a miscue by Melfort goalie Evan Plotnik and wrapped it around into the empty net for 7th of the season to tie things up at 1-1. But just 2:08 later, the Mustangs would regain that 1 goal lead as reigning SJHL MVP Travis Mayan would bang home his 32 goal of the season to make it a 2-1 game after 40 mins.

In the 3rd it would stay a one goal game until just over 4 minutes to go as the 'Stangs power play would convert as Mayan would rip a cannon past Kustra for his 2nd of the night to give the home team a 3-1 lead. The Terriers would cut it within one as Jordan Evans' 13th goal of the season would come with just 6 seconds to go but thats as close as they would get as the Mustangs won their 26th game of the season 3-2 over the Terriers.

Evan Plotnik wasn't a whole lot busy in the Melfort net making 14 saves in the win while Matt Kustra turned aside 27 of 30 shots in the losing.

Severson's 60 save performance helps Terriers get point in Flin Flon

The Yorkton Terriers for the 3rd time this season went to the extra frame with Flin Flon but for the 3rd straight time they only got a single point as they lost to the Bombers on Tuesday, 6-5 in the shootout.

The Terriers got off to a quick start and they would strike first as Jordan Evans would get a breakaway shorthanded and would slip by Bomber goaltender Zac Robidoux for his 13th goal of the season to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead. The Bombers would reply on that initial power play as Joel Kocur would take a nice feed backdoor from Jason Lavallee and beat Jakob Severson for his team leading 23rd goal to tie things up at 1-1 in a controlled 1st period by the home team where the Terrier net minder was very solid as the Bombers led in the shot column after 1 period.

Brandon Sookro would get a power play goal of their own for the Terriers just 3:12 into the middle frame, his 17th to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. But the Bombers would once again answer back just a few minutes later as Kocur would grab his 2nd of the evening, and 24th of the year to even things up at 2-2. The Terriers though once again regain that lead at 1, as 17 year old Shane Sherban would snap one home for goal number 8 on the season to give Yorkton a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes. Shots 43-15 Bombers after 40 minutes of play.

In the 3rd, Brandon Switzer would even things up at 3-3 just over a minute in for the Bombers just over 7 minutes before Alex Smith's 18th goal of the season would give Flin Flon their first lead at 4-3. The teams would trade goals once again of the sticks of Corwin Steely (Yorkton) and Tyson Empey (Flin Flon) respectively to give the Bombers a 5-4 lead. But with just 38 seconds would help secure his team at least a point as he would take a nice feed from Tyler Baier and go top shelf on the Bomber net minder for his 12th goal to force OT.

In the OT, the Terriers would once again face some adversity in their 9th shorthanded situation but they were able once again kill that off and force a shootout.

In the shootout,

FF:
Joel Kocur- GOAL
Alex Smith- GOAL

YOR:
Jordan Evans - NO GOAL
Brandon Sookro- GOAL
Jordan Ross- NO GOAL

In goal, Zac Robidoux made 28 saves for the win while Terrier net minder Jakon Severson was sensational making 60 saves in the loss.
