Pesenti's solid in debut as Terriers defeat Weyburn on Monday Night

The Yorkton Hyundai Terriers captured their 2nd straight win on Monday night defeating the Weyburn Red Wings on home ice, 3-1 to move back into 3rd place overall in the SJHL standings.

The game was a make-up game for a postponement from late January.

The Terriers would strike first just 9:26 into the 1st as Tyson Janzen snuck back-door from his blue-line position and took a beautiful pass from Keenan Taphorn & tapped home his 3rd of the season to make it 1-0.

It would stay like that until late in the 1st as the Red Wings evened things up on the powerplay as Dante Ballarin sent a shot in from the side boards that somehow snuck through the five-hole of Matthew Pesenti for his 5th of the campaign to make it 1-1 after 20 minutes.

In the 2nd, there would be only one goal scored and it would come in the final minute from Terriers' F Steven Norum as he would grab it off the draw and work his way into the high slot and hammer it through Joseph Young for his 9th of the season to give his club a 2-1 lead after 2 periods.

The Terriers' would get the lone goal in the 3rd as well as local product Colby Vranai added some insurance as he picked off a clearing attempt by Red Wings' Kabir Gill and then went in and sniped it top-shelf for his 2nd that wrapped up the scoring.

G Matthew Pesenti in his Terrier debut turned aside 23 of 24 Red Wing shots to earn his 4th victory of the season while Weyburn netminder Joseph Young made 37 stops in the loss.

Eric Krywy cut the Steelers' deficit in half just 1:17 later as he hammered in a cross-ice feed from Tanner Pochipinski past Mikael Foucher to make it 2-1.

Stamps led the shot column 32-27 after 2 periods.

Keenan Allen started a little bit of a comeback for the Steelers, as off a face-off in the Stamps' zone he would get a clear lane towards the net and then go back-hand shelf for his 3rd of the season to make it 4-2.

Then just under a minute late, the cut their deficit to one as Hudson Chamberlin on a weird one would bang it back Mikael Foucher to make it a 4-3 game but that's as close as they would get as Daunte Fortner iced it into the empty net in the final minute.

Berkeliev leads Mils to road victory over Kindersley

The Melville Millionaires earned their 2nd win in the last 3 games on Friday night after a 3-2 victory over the Kindersley Klippers at the West Central Events Center.

The Mils would get on the board first as with 9 minutes left in the 1st it would be Dylan Thackeray taking a nice feed from Jake Spak right at the top of the right circle and he sniped it over the shoulder of Klippers' net minder Steven Bacovsky for his 5th of the season to give the road team a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Shots after 1 period were 15-9 in favour of the Klippers.

Connor Nolan would add to the Mils lead early in the 2nd as just 1:50 in, his side-angle shot would squeak through the Klips goalie for his third to make it 2-0.

But the Klippers would respond just 3:07 later on the PP as 20 year old Tyler Traptow's point shot was deflected in front by Ethan Mack and past Berk Berkeliev for his 2nd to make it a 2-1 game.

Klippers continued to lead the shot column 33-19 after 40 minutes. (18-11 KK in 2nd)

Kindersley would cut their deficit within one once again just over two minutes into the 3rd as Liam Fraser's initial shot was stopped by Berkeliev but then Scott McKenzie banged home the rebound for his 11th to make it 3-2 Mils but thats as close as they would get.

Berk Berkeliev stood tall once again making 53 saves on 55 stops to earn his 11th win of the season while Klippers' G Steven Bacovsky turned aside 24 shots in loss.

Mils' late lead slips away in home ice loss to Flin Flon

SJHL

The Melville Millionaires couldn't make it two straight wins on Wednesday as they fell 5-3 to the visiting Flin Flon Bombers at the Horizon Credit Union Center.

The Mils struck first in the 1st period as while on the PP a long point shot from Blake Campbell got re-directed in by Rin Beny for his 8th of the season to give the home team an early lead after 1 period.

In the 2nd, the Bombers would respond with two goals of their own. First Cole Rafuse potted his team-leading 34th of the season on a nifty feed from Tristan Lemyre before Mason Kaspick banged home his 5th to give the visitors their first lead at 2-1.

But the Mils knotted it up late in the second as Captain Aidan Steinke's long shot hand-cuffed Jaocb Delorme to make it a 2-2 game after 40 minutes.

In the 3rd, it would stay tied until the Mils powerplay struck yet again as after a long point shot from Dylan Thackeray got stopped, Zach McIntyre was there to bang home the rebound for his 15th of the season to give the Mils a 3-2 lead.

But after a scrum around the net, it was determined that the Mils' knocked off the net intentionally and with it happening in the final two minutes of the game that means a penalty shot & Alec Malo made no mistake beating Berk Berkeliev five-hole for his 20th to tie it up at 3's.

Then with just 31 seconds left in regulation, Tanner Brown got dumped behind the net by Cole Rafuse away from the puck, and the 20 year old Mils defenceman would then get up and block a Alec Malo shot in his face area, and around the eye & while he was down on the ice,  Malo stick-handled a bit then fed Cole Rafuse back-door for his 2nd of the evening giving the Bombers the late lead.

Former Millionaire Zach Bannister would add an empty-netter late to seal the victory.

Regina's Dunstone captures 2020 Sasktel Tankard in Melville

Regina's Matt Dunstone will wear the green and white of Team Saskatchewan at this year's Tim Hortons Brier.

Dunstone and his rink of Braeden Moskowy, Catlin Schneider and Dustin Kidby doubled up Saskatoon's Kirk Muyres 4-2 in the Championship final on Sunday of the 2020 Sasktel Tankard Provincial Men's Curling Championships in Melville.

Muyres was able to even it up as facing two, he made a beauty draw to grab a piece of the button making a 2-2 game after 6 ends.

The seventh and eighth ends were also blanked, before Dunstone made nice quiet hit on a Muyres stone in the four-foot for his two to make it 4-2 heading to the 10th.

In the 10th, with Muyres needed two to tie, Dunstone and his foursome ran them out of rocks to earn the win.

Dunstone will now represent Saskatchewan at this year's National Men's Curling Championships that runs February 29th to March 8th, 2020 in Kingston, Ontario.
