Kroeker named Stamps' New Asst.Coach/Director of Marketing

The Swan Valley Stampeders Jr. A Hockey Club are excited to announce the hiring of Landon Kroeker (pictured above) as their Assistant Coach/Director of Marketing.

Kroeker has been playing hockey for over 20 years and his coaching background began over 11 years ago. He has been working with beginner to elite goaltenders between the ages of 7 - 20 on a regular basis. Notably, Former student and goaltender for the Prince George Spruce Kings, Kirk Thompson, accepted an NCAA Division 1 scholarship to the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Other Accolades:
- 3-time National Champion at the CCAA level with the SAIT Trojans
- Sr Mens AAA National Allan Cup Champion
- SAIT Trojans Regional Scout

Success for Yorkton Legion Track Club

In 2012 at the Westerns Canadian Championship at Medicine Hat only 1 athlete represented this area.

In 2013 we had 5 athletes attend the same meet in Calgary. 

This year we have 14 athletes that been accepted on Team Saskatchewan.

“My goal was to have 10 athletes represent this area”, says Yorkton legion track club manager Porte. “The Western Canadian Championship with be held in Saskatoon this year on July 18 – 20^th.  We are very excited that we will have a good presence at this meet”.

The biggest high light of them all is Derek Campbell has qualified for the 2014 Midget National Track and Field Championship in Langley, BC. “ We are all very proud of Derek”, says YLTC Club Manager Porte”. “The national standard for the 2,000m is 6:22.00 and Derek did it in 6:16.6, that is over a 6 second difference”. “ He is also 3 seconds off the 1,200m and 4 seconds off the 800m, which he will still have an opportunity to qualify at Westerns for the National Competition”.

DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS GOLF CLASSIC SETS NEW RECORD, RAISES OVER $33,000 FOR PARKLAND COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS

Parkland College is happy to announce that the ninth annual Dollars for Scholars Golf Classic raised an estimated $33,600 for the Parkland College scholarship fund. It is the most successful Dollars for Scholars in Parkland College history.
The golf tournament was held June 20 at Deer Park Golf Course in Yorkton. A few rain showers throughout the day did little to dampen the spirits of 138 golfers, who continue to call this event one of the most enjoyable in the region.
“As word gets around, people are eagerly throwing their support behind this event,” said tournament co-chair Brendan Wagner. “It is a true community effort and we couldn’t do it without the support of hundreds of individuals and businesses across Saskatchewan.”
This is the sixth straight year that a new record for the event has been set. Last year’s Dollars for Scholars raised just over $28,000.
The Dollars for Scholars Golf Classic is the college’s largest scholarship fundraiser. Proceeds from the event have helped Parkland College award well over $100,000 in scholarships in each of the last three academic years.
“Our students are grateful to have access to these scholarships,” Wagner said. “And every time we set a new record like this, more students will benefit.”
The Dollars for Scholars Golf Classic is made possible by generous contributions from hundreds of community supporters, volunteers, and sponsors. Banquet sponsor R H Electric, Platinum sponsors Farrell Agencies, Logan Stevens Construction, MHPM Project Leaders, SaskTel, and RBC Financial Group, and media partners GX94 and Fox FM played key roles in the success of the tournament.
Parkland College also thanks the 22 Gold Sponsors, 33 Silver sponsors, 157 Bronze sponsors, and three hole-in-one sponsors for their donations of cash and prizes. The event sold out in May; golfers supported the scholarship fund with their entry fees.
The 10th annual Dollars for Scholars Golf Classic is tentatively scheduled for June 19, 2015.

Local Product Stoll relishes 2nd Stanley Cup Title

Its been a whirlwind week for local product Jarret Stoll and the Los Angeles Kings as they were able to capture their 2nd Stanley Cup in 3 years last Friday night at the Staples Center in LA with an overtime victory over the New York Rangers in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

I had a chance to catch up with Stoll to chat about capturing his 2nd NHL Championships

Stamps' Flanagan commits to University of Toronto

 The Swan Valley Stampeders are pleased to announce the commitment of 1993 born forward Max Flanagan to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. 

Max joins the Varsity Blues following a Junior A career in Swan Valley and was assistant captain for the Manitoba Junior Hockey League Stampeders in this past season. Max tallied 66 points last season for the Stampeders, which ranked him first on the team, and 3rd  in the league.

 “We are thrilled that Max has successfully been recruited to the University of Toronto, as that was the University he most wanted to attend.  Max is a great example of what dedication to the sport of hockey can result in, having started in Jr. B in the KIJHL before joining the Stampeders 2 seasons ago.  Max was a treat to watch and a great player to coach, I wish him luck moving forward.” Stampeder Coach Petersen stated.

"I am so excited, U of T is the #1 place I wanted to go.  I am so grateful for the opportunity to play in Swan Valley, everyone from the best billet family in the world, the fans, my team mates, to the hard working management/coaching staff has treated me so well. I will never forget my time in Swan River.” said Max.
