Terriers win; Wolverines lose on Saturday Night

The Yorkton Terriers got the game winner from Tyson Enzie in the early stages of the 3rd as they shaded by the Battlefords North Stars on Saturday 3-2.

Daylan Gatzke and Carson Cayer (Teddy Bear Toss goal) had the other goals for the Terriers who got a 33 save performance from Dawson MacAuley for the win. 

The Terriers will return to action Friday when they visit the Battlefords North Stars.

The Wayway Wolverines got their lone goal from Dylan Gejdos as they dropped 3-1 decision to the visiting Steinbach Pistons. 

Mitch Wiebe made 19 saves in the loss in a game the Wolverines outshot their opponent 27-20.

The Wolverines will go right back at it on Sunday when they host the Portage Terriers. 

Terriers drop a 3-1 road decision in Nipawin

After getting back in the win column last Saturday night with a shutout win over the Melville Millionaires, the Yorkton Terriers weren't able to build off that win as they fell 3-1 tonight on the road against the Nipawin Hawks. 

It wasn't a good start for the Terriers as the Hawks were able to capitalize on a little bus legs from the Terriers and get some early opportunities but like all game long Dawson MacAuley made some key saves for his club. Then just over 8 minutes into the 1st period the Hawks would get on the board as Chase Thudium would sneak one through for his 13th goal of the season to give the home team a 1-0 lead after 20 Minutes. 

In the 2nd, Nipawin would add to their lead early on at the 3:54 mark, Brandsn Arnold would get the eventual game winner as beat Dawson MacAuley with his 7th to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead. But just a short time later, the Terriers were able to get on the board on the power play as Carson Cayer bounced on a rebound and banged him his 2nd to cut the deficit in half for the Terriers at 2-1 through 2 periods.

The hometown Hawks in the 3rd would ice it on a powerplay of their own as Carter Coben would take a nice feed back door and slip home his 13th of the year to make it a 3-1 Hawks final. 

Joe O'Brien was solid enough for the Hawks stopping 24 shots for the win, while for the Terriers' Dawson MacAuley kept his team in the game and made 35 saves in the losing cause. 

The Terriers will go right back at it on Saturday night when they welcome the Battlefords North Stars at the FAA at 7:30

(**Also of note that this game is the 4th annual Teddy Bear Toss Night, so fans attending the game are asked to bring a new or gently used Teddy Bear to the game and throw it on ice when Terriers score first goal. All teddy bears will be donated to the Yorkton Salvation Army)

Elsewhere, 

Lane Harbor (2G 1A) and Landon Farrell (1G 2A) each has 3 points each as the Melville Millionaires for the 2nd time this week defeated the Battlefords North Stars, this time 6-2. 

Tyler Kreklewich, Greyson Reitmeir, and Dylan Ostertag also scored for the Mils while Troy Trombley made 34 saves for the victory. 

The Mils will return to action on Sunday for an afternoon affair in Wilcox against the Notre Dame Hounds. Game time is 4:30. 

Mils get a point but lose 2-1 in OT to Kindersley

 To keep it The Melville Millionaires put together another solid effort on the ice, but managed to get only a point as they lost 2-1 to the Kindersley Klippers. 

After a very good start to the game last night in the Battlefords, it wasn't quite the same tonight here in Kindersley as just 48 seconds into the opening frame Darcy Deroose's shot slipped through goaltender Troy Trombley for his 10th of the season (1st as a Klipper) to provide the only offence of the 1st to give the Klippers a 1-0 lead.

The Mils started off period number 2 with a couple PP chances but as what has become a common theme for the Money man as the PP continued to struggle and weren't able to capitalize. But as the period went on the Mils continued to have their fair share of better chances and they would finally break through as Dalton Menke finished off his 4th of the season to even things up at 1-1 after 40 minutes.

In the 3rd it was all Klippers as they sent 16 shots the way of the Mils net minder Troy Trombley but he was outstanding to keep it deadlocked at 1-1 going into the overtime.

The Klippers wouldn't take long to end it in the overtime period when Shaun MacPhearson would end off a nice passing play for his 6th of the season to get the extra point. 

Evan Weninger stopped 25 shots for the win, while Troy Trombley made 30 saves in the losing cause. 

Mils will return to action Friday when they host the Battlefords North Stars at 7:30 HCUC.

In the MJHL, 

Graham Hunt was outstanding stopping 47 shots for the shutout to lead the Swan Valley Stampeders past the OCN Blizzard 4-0. 

Carter Johnson led the way with 1G 2A, while Nick Kobelka, Tristin Mullin, and BJ Avery also scored for the SV Stampeders. 

Stamps return to action Sunday when they visit Neepawa on GX94. 

Mils' score 4 as they dump the Battlefords

The Melvillle Millionaires got win number 14 on the season as they defeated the Battlefords North Stars on Tuesday night by a score of 4-1. 

After a little bit of a slow start for the Mils, they finally got their bus legs' out of them especially after they killed off their first penalty kill they got some jump and got some great opportunities but couldn't captialize on their chances. But then they would get their first man advantage and Ben Mack would capitalize on it for his 5th of the season to give the Mils a 1-0 lead after 1 period. 

The Mils would make it a 2-0 lead just 23 seconds into the 2nd as Tyler Kreklewich playing his 1st game as a full time Millionaire, finished off a nice passing play for his 2nd goal of the season. It would stay like that until a short time later when Brady O'Sullivan would go top shelf on Troy Trombley to make it a 1 goal lead for the Mils at 2-1 after 40 minutes. 

The North Stars would put on some pressure to get the equalizer but they would come up a little bit short as the Mils would add a couple empty netters off the sticks of Dalton Menke and Landon Farrell to give them a 4-1 victory. 

Troy Trombley was once again solid for the Mils making 34 saves in goal while Ryan Rewerts made 32 saves In a losing cause. 

The Mils will continue their roady in Kindersley on Wednesday, 6:50/7:00 on GX94.

While in the MJHL, 

The Wayway Wolverines got goals from Johl Swedlo and Rylee Zimmer but it wasn't enough as they fell 6-2 to the Dauphin Kings. 

Mitch Wiebe turned aside 35 shots on the losing cause. 

Wayway is back in action Saturday hosting Steinbach.

**- The Melville Millionaires have called up 17 year old Melville product Tyler Kreklewich from the SMAAAHL's Tisdale Trojans for the rest of the season. Kreklewich was currently leading that league in scoring with 15 goals, 25 assists for 40 points in 20 games with the Trojans.

The Winkler Flyers have traded 19 year old goaltender Adam Vander Linden and 19 year old forward Shawn Pachet to the Neepawa Natives for the MJHL list rights of 15 year old defenseman Brennan Ostir and future considerations.

The Dauphin Kings have traded  19 year old forward Tanner Hepp to the Winkler Flyers for future considerations.

The Steinbach Pistons have traded 18 year old forward Cole McCartan and future considerations to the La Ronge Ice Wolves for the 19 year old forward Connor Kortko
(Steinbach then sent Kortko along with futures to the Dauphin Kings for 19 year old forward Tyler Garrioch.)

Wolverines come up empty on road trip after loss in Selkirk

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines' losing is now at 2 games after they dropped a 5-4 decision last night to the Selkirk Steelers.

Aaron Dupasquier (pictured above) had 2 goals for the Wolverines who got singles from Brock Paddock and Neil Woolfrey.

Brandon Holtby got the start for Wayway and made 28 saves in a losing cause.

The Wolverines will return to action tomorrow night (Tues) when they visit the Dauphin Kings at 7PM from Dauphin's Credit Union Place.
