Terriers win 2nd straight 5-2 over Melfort

The Yorkton Terriers won their 2nd straight game and moved 3 points clear of the Melville Millionaires for top spot in the Viterra division standings as they dumped the Melfort Mustangs 5-2 on Friday night at the FAA.

The Terriers didn't waste any time opening the scoring as just 56 seconds into the game Tayler Thompson would finish off a nice feed in front from Brett Boehm for his 11th of the season to give the Terriers a early 1-0 lead. But just 37 seconds later it would be the Mustangs getting the quick equalizer as Cole Hrysky would slip one past Kale Thomson to tie it up at 1. It would stay like that until the 12:15 mark of the 1st when Adam Santoro would notch his 2nd SJHL goal to give Yorkton a 2-1 lead after 1 period.

In the 2nd, it would be all Terriers has they would come with pressure after pressure and they would be greatly rewarded for the efforts as they would get 3 goals in the middle frame of the sticks of Dylan Johnson (6th), Brett Boehm (16th), and Matthew Cox would get his 1st SJHL goal which would chase Austin Rediron out of the Mustangs goal, in relief for Jack Romaniuk.

In the 3rd, it would be the Mustangs controlling much of the play and they would get the lone goal of the period in the latter stages of the period to give the Terriers a 5-2 victory on home ice.

Kale Thomson stopped 32 of 34 shots for his 19th win of the season, while Austin Rediron would get the loss as he let all 5 goals in on 19 shots before being relieved by Jack Romaniuk who stopped all 13 shots he faced.

The two team will go right back at it on Saturday in the rematch 7:30 faceoff from the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort.
