Mils prevail in Shootout over Estevan on Tuesday night; Mils Coaches Show (Feb 26th)

(Alec Brandrup)

The Melville Millionaires had a 3-0 lead early in the 2nd then lost it but were able to hold on for a 4-3 shootout win over the Estevan Bruins on Tuesday night.

In a back and forth first period it will be the Millionaires getting the lone goal of the period as Landon Farrell would take a nice feed in front and some how get it past Matt Gibney for his 17th goal of the season to make it a 1-0 Mils lead after 1 period.

In the 2nd period the Mils would get off to a hot start as Colin Mospanchuk would notch home his 20th goal of the season to give the home team a 2-0 lead with a nice snapshot that beat Gibney high. They would make it 3-0 just 13 seconds later as Allen Kilback's backhander beat Gibney for his 16th to make it a 3 goal Mils lead. But then the Bruins would get a little bit of life with a few chances and they would convert with 2 goals of their own as Austin Daae and Corey Kosloski would get markers past Isaiah Plett to make it a 1 goal 3-2 Mils after 40 minutes.

The third period would bring once again a back a forth affair, all the wat until just under 5 minutes to go when Lyndon Pastachak would get the equalizer as his wrist shot from the top of circles would beat Plett for the 8th marker for the former Yorkton Harvest star to make it a 3-3 hockey game after regulation.

The Mils would come out flying in OT early on similar to what they did in the 2nd, and would get a couple of chances but couldn't convert. Moments later, former Millionaire Michael Sagen would get sprung in alone with Plett and he would get a chance but in the process would also get hooked up sending Alec Brandrup to the box and let Bruins go to work on a 4 on 3 PP. But  the Mils pk which was so good all night would be able to kill it off and the game would stay even going into the shootout.

In the shootout the first 4 shooters (2 from each side) would miss, then it was Mils dman Alec Brandrups (pictured above)  turn and he would beat Gibney with a nice wrister making it a must make for Austin Rosselin but he was denied by the poke check of Plett to give the Mils the 4-3 extra time win.

Isaiah Plett turned aside 36 shots for the win while Matt Gibney stopped 33 in the shootout loss.

The Mils now moved ahead of the Battlefords North Stars for 4th in the SJhL Standings and will finish off their regular season on Friday when they host the Notre Dame Hounds, 7:20/7:30 on GX94 while the Estevan Bruins will finish off their season with a home and home with the Estevan Bruins this weekend, they are 3 points back now of the 6th place Humboldt Broncos.
