Stamps fall in the shootout in Wayway

The Swan Valley Stampeders who were playing without about 5 regulars still managed to get a point as they fell 2-1 in the shootout to the Wayway Wolverines.

The Stamps would open the scoring fairly early on as Colton Brausen slip one through the five-hole of Mitch Wiebe for his 5th goal of the season to make it an early 1-0 lead for the Stamps after 1 period of play.

In the 2nd it would be all Wolverines as they controlled much of the plays, out shooting the Stamps 19-4 and also outscoring the Stamps as Robert Briem would get the lone goal his team leading 19th goal of the season to tie it up at 1-1 after 40 minutes.

The Stampeders and Wolverines would play a more even 3rd perod as the shots were 12-12, but did both teams have chances to try and get that equalizer but both goalies stood tall, and that would force overtime which solved nothing.

In the shootout, the first 2 Stamps' shooters would miss and the first Wolverine shooter would miss until Robert Briem would score low blocker past Holowenko. Then it would come to Braydon McDonald who tried to go forehand, backhand but was denied to lead the Wolverines to a 2-1 victory.

Mitch Wiebe turned aside 27 shots for the Wolverines, while Cole Holowenko put together his 2nd straight quality start stopping 44 shots in net for the shootout loss.

The Stamps will wait a week until their next action a home match up against the Virden Oil Capitals while the Wayway Wolverines will go right back at it on Saturday night hosting the OCN Blizzard in their final home game of the regular season.
