Spilchal is the Game 1 Hero as Wolverines beat Kings 3-1 in OT to take 1-0 series lead

The Wayway Wolverines are now one game away from making the MJHL's Final 8 as 20 year old George Spilchal (pictured above) capitalized on a breakaway just 3:55 into the overtime period, to beat the Dauphin Kings 3-2 in Game 1 of the Best of 3 Survivor Series on home ice.

The other 4 goals in the game came all in the 2nd period as Montana Tanner opened up the scoring 5:50 into the middle frame to make it 1-0. Kirklan Lycar would reply for the Kings to even things up at 1-1. The Wolverine would once again regain their 1 goal lead, as Braden Pettinger's shot would find its way past Kings goalie Connor Shaw to make it 2-1. But just 1:45 later, Ben Hull would return the favor and rip home his 1st of the playoffs to tie things up at 2-2.

It would stay tied at deuces after a scoreless 3rd until Spilchal's heroics shortly in the overtime period.

Mitch Wiebe returned back to the crease for the Wolverines and stopped 27 shots for the win while Kings netminder Connor Shaw made 30 saves in the losing cause.

Wolverines will have a chance to wrap it up on Saturday night when the two teams meet for Game 2 of the Best of 3 Series. GX94 will broadcast the game with Yorkton Dodge Junior Playoff Hockey. There will be no pregame because of Kinsmen Radio bingo, so I'll have the PxP and coverage will begin right at 7PM from Dauphin's Credit Union Place.

Wayway HC/GM Barry Butler recaps last night's win and previews tomorrow's game 2.
