Wolff steps down as Swan Valley Stampeders Head Coach/GM

When the MJHL's Swan Valley Stampeders begin their 2019/20 season, they will be doing so with a new Head Coach and General Manager.

The board of directors with the club announced this morning (Thurs) that Barry Wolff has stepped down from his position with the hockey club to join the BCHL's Merritt Centennials as their new Head Coach/GM.

"It's disappointing because a person of Barry's ability doesn't come around very often but I guess we all knew the risk of wanting to head back closer to home in BC at some point that whats his decision, but I think we have positives we made this year and hopefully we can build on those & move forward", Stamps President Pat Morden said in a interview with GX94.

Wolff in his only season with the Stampeders led them to one of their most successful season in franchise history which included an appearance in their first ever MJHL Turnbull Cup Final.

He added that the decision was a difficult one and that monetary considerations did not factor into it.

"I loved my time in the Swan Valley, the people there are first class and the success we had it was just a great year but with the chance in BC where it's my home and those chances don't come very often so I felt it was in my best interests to move on."

Wolff’s contract with the Stampeders was for the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons, with an opt-out clause that could be exercised prior to May 31, 2019.
