Stamps get blanked by Portage; Mils win; Terriers fall in OT on Friday Night

The Swan Valley Stampeders dropped their 2nd straight decision as they were blanked 3-0 by the Portage Terriers on Friday night at the Centennial Arena in Swan River.

It wasn't the start were looking for as just 1:41 into period number 1, the Terriers would open the scoring as Tyler Jeanson would knock home his 12th of the season through the five-hole of Lasse Peterson to give his team an early 1-0. The Stamps throughout the opening frame would not get much offence whats so ever as they were only able to muster up 5 shots in the 1st and the visitors led 1-0 after 1.

In the 2nd it was a little better start for the Stamps as they did have some chances including the league's top goal scorer in Max Flanagan hitting the post on a 2-on-1 but it would be the Portage Terriers getting the only goal and it would be Nolan Ross getting his 6th of the season to give the Terriers a 2 goal 2-0 after 40 minutes.

In the 3rd it would be the Stamps' best period of the 3, but they did have 3 early powerplays including a 4 minute powerplay which they couldn't convert and they would go 0 for 6 on the powerplay on the evening. Terriers' captain and lone 20 year old Riley Hay would put the final nail in the coffin for the Terriers with a late powerplay goal his 8th to complete the scoring at 3-0 Portage.

Talor Joseph stopped 25 shots for his 1st MJHL shutout while 16 year old Lasse Peterson was very solid in a losing cause stopping 39 of 42 shots.

The Stamps will return to action on Sunday when they visit the Dauphin Kings, pregame 7:20, Play by play at 7:30 on GX94.

In the SJHL,

The Melville Millionaires got by on the win track as they doubled up the visiting Melfort Mustangs 6-3 at the HCUC.

Allen Kilback scored a couple in his return to the Mils lineup while Alec Brandrup, Lane Harbor, Kelvin Walz and newcomer TJ Constant also scored for the Mils. Landon Farrell chipped in with 3 assists for the Mils.

Richard Palmer stopped 30 of 33 shots for the win for the Mils.

The Mils will play their final home game before Xmas on Sunday when they host the Estevan Bruins at 6:00 HCUC.

The Yorkton Terriers managed to get a point, but for the 2nd straight the Estevan Bruins got the better hand of the Terriers defeating them tonight 4-3 in overtime with Tanner Froese getting the OT winner.

Recently acquired Brett Boehm had a goal and an assist in his 1st game as a Terrier while Derek Falloon and Kailum Gervais also scored for the Terriers. Kale Thomson stopped 19 shots in a losing cause.
