Frustrating Friday for our Local Junior A Teams

The Swan Valley Stampeders had their record drop 2-2 to start the season as they fell 3-1 to the Winnipeg Blues in the MJHL Showcase opener for both teams in Winnipeg.

Liam Kroeker got things going for the Blues 9:24 into the 1st as he would put his 3rd goal of the season over the shoulder of Brett Evans to give the Blues and early 1-0 lead after 1.

The Blues would add a couple more in the frame with first one coming just over 7 minutes in as James MacIssac would capitalize on a Stampeder turnover and snipe home his 1st MJHL goal and then shortly after that Kroeker would pick up some garbage of the Stamps net and slip home his 4th of the season, & 2nd of the night to give Winnipeg a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.

The Stamps were able to add one late in the final minute as Evan Akkerman hammered home his 1st of the season to break the shutout of Scott Parsons but that's as close as they would get as the Blues held on for their 3rd win of the season, 3-1 over the Stampeders.

Parsons who hails from Fort Frances, Ontario made 19 saves on 20 shots for the victory while 17 year old Grandview MB product Brett Evans made 27 saves in a losing cause.

The Stamps will wrap up their MJHL Showcase today (Sat) when they take on the Steinbach Pistons at 7PM MB time from the MTS Iceplex.
