It was a great start for Team Saskatchewan at the 2017 "Ray Carter Cup" 15U National Championships in Summerside, PEI.
Saskatchewan won their tournament opener on Thursday afternoon blanking Team Manitoba 5-0.
Kyle Froehlich, Kael Flynn and Goodeve's Ryan Rathgeber combined to throw a 1-hit shutout.
Rathgeber went 2 1/3 innings allowing 1 hit on 1 walk while striking out 5 batters.
Josh Cleggett of Balcarres caught for Team Sask and also went 2 for 2 at the plate with 2 singles in the win.
Saskatchewan will have a couple games on Friday. At 6AM SK time vs. Nova Scotia and 12:30PM SK time vs. Team Alberta.
Melville products Chris Sastaunik and Brett Walchuk are members of the Saskatchewan coaching staff.
