Moosomin Generals capture first ever 2022 Rural Manitoba 9- a side Football League title

For the first time, the Moosomin Generals are champions of the Rural Manitoba 9- a side Football League.

"It's been a long time coming, we've been in the league for about 10 years now, and been close a few times but just this year was different, we had a pretty special group with a lot of players buying in and we were glad to get it done," said Generals Coach Dextor Mondor 

The Generals beat the visiting Interlake Thunder 16-12 on Saturday afternoon at home to capture the Doug Steeves Trophy.

"We were able to execute a couple big plays offensively, and then our D stood tall and they say that defence wins championships and that's what it did for us on Saturday", Mondor added.

Moosomin advanced to the championship after a tight Semi-Final win over the Swan Valley Tigers the previous week.

TERRIERS 4, HOUNDS 2 

The Yorkton Terriers' snapped their 6 game winless streak on Friday night, doubling up the Notre Dame Hounds 4-2 in Wilcox. 

Maddux Nollski and JD Hall led the way offensively for the Terriers with 1G 1A each, while Lowie and Tijs Vreys also scored. 

Samuel Borschowa and Kyle Kalamaras replied for the home side. 

Terriers' G Caleb Allen turned aside 41 of 43 shots to earn the victory for Yorkton, who'll return to action on Thursday night visiting the Flin Flon Bombers. GX94 will broadcast the game, with the pregame starting at 7:20 and the play by play at 7:30PM from the Whitney Forum.

NIGHTHAWKS 3, STAMPEDERS 4 (SO) 

The Swan Valley Stampeders' pushed their win streak to three on Friday night, dumping the visiting Niverville Nighthawks 4-3 in the shootout. 

Josh Danis scored the tying goal for Swan in the third then scored shootout winner. 

Trey Sauder and Myles Mason also scored in regulation for the Stampeders' who got 30 saves from Loic Mainguy-Crepault in the win. 

Brenden Bottem, Josh Paulhus and Braden Panzer scored for the visitors. 

The Stampeders' host the Winkler Flyers Saturday night, while the Nighthawks visit the OCN Blizzard.  

WOLVERINES 5, FREEZE 3 

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines also got back in the win column last night (Fri) beating the Winnipeg Freeze 5-3 on the road. 

Cole Carlson (2G), Boone Mathison (1G 1A) , Caden Carlson (1G 1A) and Guerin Apperly (1G 1A) led the way offensively with 2 points each for Wayway. 

Jack Kabuluk, Andrew Thevenot and Kyle Grysuik scored for the Freeze, who'll be in Waywayseecappo on Saturday night

Millionaires' drop 3rd straight, 5-3 road decision in Wilcox

 MILLIONAIRES 3, HOUNDS 5

The Melville Millionaires' dropped their 3rd straight as they wrap up their 6 game road stretch with a 5-3 loss to the Notre Dame Hounds on Wednesday night. 

The Millionaires' got off to an early lead as Cooper Chisholm pulled the Mils in front 1-0 with a 1st period goal after a nice feed in front from Nathan Fox, and then Noah Wills scored a highlight-reel goal, almost half way through the 2nd to make it 2-0.

But that's when the Hounds took over as just over a minute later,  Antoine St. Onge pulled the Hounds within one with a PP goal and then just 13 seconds later, Cyprus Smith-Davis jammed his 2nd of the season to pull the home side even. 

Notre Dame added two more before the 2nd period buzzer off the sticks of Sam Kroon and Will Dawsom to make it 4-2 through 2 periods.

In the 3rd, the Mils pulled back within one as Colby Ball's wrister on the powerplay beat a screened Tucker Inabinet for his 2nd of the campaign.

Will Dawson though would ice it into the empty net with just over a minute to go, his 2nd of the night to ice the game.

Tucker Inabinet turned aside 18 of 21 shots to earn the victory, while Melville G Kelton Pyne made 37 saves on 41 shots in the losing cause.

The Millionaires return to action on Saturday night back home against the Nipawin Hawks at 7:00PM, while the Hounds host the Yorkton Terriers on Friday.

Terriers' deal CJHL rights to '03 D Jasper to Whitecourt Wolverines (AJHL)

The Yorkton Terriers' have traded 2003-born defenceman Parker Jasper for the Whitecourt Wolverines of the AJHL for a player development fee.

The Regina product had 2 goals, 26 assists for 28 points in 51 games last season with the Terriers.

He was pointless in one game this season with the NAHL's El Paso Rhinos.

Local product helps Regina Thunder win 2022 PFC Championship

 THUNDER BECOME PFC CHAMPIONS 

             


The Regina Thunder captured the 2022 Prairie Football Conference championship beating the Saskatoon Hilltops 39-21 on Sunday at Mosaic Stadium. 

Quarterback Carter Shewchuk had one passing touchdown along with two rushing touchdowns. Running back, Ryland Leichert also had a pair of rushing touchdowns to lead the Thunder offence.

The Thunder roster included an abundance of local players including: Stephen Smith (Abernethy), Garion Miller, Reece McCormick, Garion Miller, Jaxon Boyda, Keane Szabo, Kenton Effa, Josh Kidd (all of Yorkton), Rylan Sokul (Wynyard), Matthew Schill, Justin Reiger, Owen Woidyla, Josh Woidyla, Tyson Colby (all of Indian Head).

The Thunder will now host the Okanagan Sun, which includes Yorkton product Noah Bymak in the National Final on Nov. 12 in Regina.

Mils' Cain; Stamps' Sauder receive weekly honours in SJHL & MJHL

 
The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League announced their weekly award winners yesterday (Mon). 

Among those selected included Melville Millionaires' captain Zach Cain, named the SGEU MVP of the Week. 

The Pilot Butte, SK product had 3 goals and 5 assists for 8 points over the 4 game road trip for the Mils which saw them go 1-3 through La Ronge and Flin Flin. 

Cain's point total now sits at 27 points which currently leads the SJHL scoring race.

Connor Abric (Defenceman of Week), Karsten Kayter (Rookie of the Week) and 15 year old Berny Weston (Goalie of the Week) also received weekly award honours. 

Meanwhile in the MJHL, Swan Valley Stampeders' 2nd year forward Trey Sauder was named one of the three MJHL Stars of the Week. 

The Swan River native had 5 points in 2 wins for the Stamps over the weekend against the Selkirk Steelers and Winnipeg Freeze.
